July 4th Fireworks: Stay Safe And Sane Or Risk Big Fines
July 4th fireworks shows are a tradition that goes all the way back to the founding of our country. But here in Las Vegas and Clark County, you risk big fines if you’re caught setting off illegal fireworks.
Many People Travel Outside Clark County To Buy Illegal July 4th Fireworks
If you drive your car on any of Clark County’s freeways, you’ve probably already seen the electronic signs warning against transporting illegal fireworks. We are all urged to only purchase, and set off, safe and sane July 4th fireworks.
You’re probably already seeing makeshift fireworks booths begin erected in parking lots all over the Las Vegas valley. This year, safe and sane July 4th fireworks can be purchased from June 28th through Independence Day.
However, many people travel outside of Clark County to purchase illegal fireworks each year. There are stores in Pahrump or Amargosa which sell fireworks that are legal in Nye County. But you must fire them off in Nye County. Preferably, at one of those towns’ specific safety sites
Some people head to stores operated by the Moapa Band of Paiutes. Even though Moapa is located in Clark County, the fireworks you purchase there must be set off from Moapa’s special launch pad.
Which Types Of July 4th Fireworks Are Illegal In Clark County
As you know, many people still bring illegal fireworks into Clark County and set them off on July 4th. In fact, there were over 12,000 reports last year of illegal fireworks being set off in the Las Vegas valley.
In general, to remain safe and sane and to avoid big fines, purchase your July 4th fireworks at one of the many convenient booths set up in parking lots all across the Las Vegas valley.
“Illegal fireworks include firecrackers, roman candles, and sky rockets – anything made of highly combustible materials.” That’s according to the ClarkCountyNV.gov website.
But if you decide to break the law, you risk steep fines. The Clark County website goes on to note that fines for using illegal Fourth of July fireworks in Las Vegas and unincorporated portions of Clark County start at $500. Current laws allow for officials to fine you up to $10,000 for large amounts of illegal fireworks.
Is it really worth it? Not really. Especially when you consider all of the places throughout the Las Vegas valley where you can watch spectacular fireworks shows for free. Why risk steep fines, possibly injury, or starting a deadly fire?
