Nevada HAND Is Building More Affordable Housing In Las Vegas
Good news for seniors living on a fixed income averaging about $24,000 per year. Nevada HAND, a non-profit organization, is beginning construction on new, affordable apartments. In fact, they are breaking ground this month on a 125-unit community in Southwest Las Vegas.
Under Construction: Affordable Apartments For Low-Income Seniors
The Buffalo Cactus Senior Apartment community is now under construction. As you can tell by the name, this 125-unit complex is located near the corner of Cactus and Buffalo in Southwest Las Vegas. According to a press release on NevadaHAND.org, the new community will offer “high quality, attractive, amenity-rich affordable housing.”
So, what type of amenities will be included at the Buffalo Cactus Senior Apartments? The press release goes on to state that there will be “a community room, pool, exercise and fitness center, outdoor recreation areas, and free shuttle service.” That sounds great! Furthermore, these affordable apartments should be ready for renters in “early-to-mid 2025.”
Nevada HAND, a local non-profit organization, already has 35 affordable housing communities here in Southern Nevada. Furthermore, they aren’t just for low-income seniors. As a matter of fact, low-income families also live in Nevada HAND communities around the valley. Not to mention, this organization has been around since 1993. I’ve lived here since 1994, and I had no idea there was a non-profit building affordable apartments for low-income seniors and families around Southern Nevada.
I Wish I’d Known About Nevada HAND Communities When Mom Moved Here
My Mom decided to pack up and leave New England back in 2009. She moved all her stuff out here to Las Vegas. We found her a very nice 55+ apartment community in Summerlin. She has lived there, on her own, ever since. At first, the rent was very affordable. In fact, it was about $800 a month. And now, she pays well over $1,300 per month. It’s getting more difficult for her to make ends meet on a fixed income. So, it’s good to know there’s is a non-profit organization such as Nevada HAND in our community.
