Trailer Watch: ‘The Estate’ Looks Hilarious With A Star-Studded Cast
There’s a new comedy out today that I’m definitely not missing: The Estate. For two reasons. First of all, there is a huge cast of stars, some of which we haven’t seen in a while. Second, it just looks like a hilarious storyline.
Toni Collette (who we loved in Sixth Sense) and Anna Faris (from the Scary Movie franchise) play sisters in this movie. They have a terminally-ill aunt who is very well off. As she ends her life, the sisters try to kiss up to her to ensure their inheritance of her estate.
And of course this can’t be easy in a comedy. Which it isn’t in The Estate, in part because the aunt is very cranky and hard to please. And it took me most of the trailer to realize who was playing the aunt. It’s none other than Kathleen Turner. I loved her before in movies like Romancing The Stone, but she really won me over playing Chandler‘s dad in Friends. Just epic.
There’s another reason this inheritance isn’t going to come easy to the sisters. It’s the same thing everyone has to fight in such situations: other family members. The greedy cousins of the sisters show up to try to steal the fortune away. And who is playing the cousins is another gem in The Estate.
It’s been awhile since we’ve seen him on screen and it never gets old. I’m talking about Fox Mulder himself, David Duchovny. He’s hilarious in his role as one of the cousins. Real-life married couple Rosemarie DeWitt (Standoff) and Ron Livingston (Band of Brothers) also play cousins who are scheming to get the fortune.
Well, I hope this trailer does the movie justice and that the film is as funny as it looks like it will be. If anyone needs me, I’ll be at the theater!

9 Of Angela Lansbury's Best Movies
Angela Lansbury died today. She was easily one of the most beloved actresses of her time. Her career lasted longer than eight decades. In her years in the entertainment industry, she won several awards. She’s been nominated for three Academy Awards, won two Golden Globe Awards and five Tony Awards. One of few actresses known for theater, film and television, she won a Kennedy Center Honors award in 2020. Ironically, the award she never won was the Tony. In spite of being nominated for one 18 times for her work on Murder, She Wrote. But that role did land her an induction into the TV Academy Hall of Fame (wikipedia.org).
Angela Lansbury also won an Honorary Academy Award, a Lifetime Achievement Award from the British Academy of Film and Television Art, and an Lifetime Achievement Tony Award.
Anyone who saw Lansbury on the stage or screen knows she had such a regal presence about her. Which is to be expected, as the actress grew up in an upper-middle class family in London. Her mother was an actress and her father a politician, which also lent itself to her balance of grace and savvy. Lansbury started acting at the young age of 9, when she used it as a coping mechanism to deal with her father’s death.
Lansbury‘s first role on the screen was as a cockney maid in Gaslight in 1944. She was only 17 when she landed that role, and a social worker had to accompany her on set. That role kicked off her career. Lansbury signed a 7-year contract with Metro Goldwyn-Mayer after being cast in that movie. She appeared in another MGM film two years later, when Til The Clouds Roll By was released in 1946. Since then she has done countless films, tv shows, and stage productions.
While Angela Lansbury did amazing work in television and onstage as well, we’re just focusing on her movies right now. Here’s a list of our favorites.
