Las Vegas Showing Love To Local Artists At First Friday
First Friday happens every month in Las Vegas. And it’s a perfect time to get out and show support to our local artists.
It’s coming up again this Friday, January 5, 2024. As the title says, the Las Vegas art festival happens on the first Friday of every month. Over the twenty plus years I’ve lived in Vegas, I’ve seen a lot of amazing things. People juggling fire. Awesome live music. Super talented new artists that I can say I saw before they were famous. And always something different every month.
And regardless of what you see at any given First Friday in Las Vegas, it’s a way for local residents to support some of the very people who make our city great.
The First Friday Foundation is holding this week’s event at the usual place. At the Art Walk on Boulder Avenue and First Street in front of the Arts Factory. The event will be from 5-11pm and will feature Recycled Propaganda. Created by Izaac Zevalking, the exhibit beautifully addresses contemporary issues through graphic design and art.
The Cindy Funkhouser Residency Space, named after First Friday’s primary founder and given to a different local artist every month, is hosting Sam Dickerson in January. Dickerson has no restrictions when it comes to media. You’re bound to see everything from tattoos to watercolor paintings and everything in between at his exhibit.
Another interesting residency at this month’s First Friday is featuring artists Gina Cifonelli, Tara Banfield and Mila May. These artists mentored several women through the Salvation Army Seeds of Hope Program. And their booth will use creative art to show the process of recovery from the trauma of human trafficking.
Every First Friday in Las Vegas also features live art being done on site. With opportunities for guests to be a part of murals. There is live music, food trucks, restaurants, bars and retail spaces open. First Friday isn’t just an art show. It’s an entire experience that also supports our local artists.
