VIDEO: Yes’ Steve Howe Releases First Track From Upcoming LP With Late Son, Virgil
Yes guitarist Steve Howe has remained silent since the sudden death of his son, Virgil, in September, but he says his piece in a video from the latest album the two recorded together.
“Leaving Aurora,” the first track from the duo’s new album Nexus, features photos and videos of Virgil as Howe plays the gentle instrumental track on acoustic guitar, ending with the message “In Loving Memory of Virgil Howe.”
Nexus comes out Friday (November 17) and was finished shortly before Virgil’s death at the age of 41. In a statement, Howe said that the album “explores a completely different side of Virgil’s ability, as a writer and keyboard player — in his own right. His talents were multi-diverse, so sitting at a keyboard and computer or in the middle of his drum kit, at all his regular DJ gigs or one on the radio, he always gave his best. We hope that the music just completed will stand as a fitting tribute to his life and legacy.”
In addition to working with his father, Virgil Howe was also part of Little Barrie, the Killer Meters, the Dirty Feel and more. Howe’s other son, Dylan, toured with Yes as a second drummer this year.
