Will Las Vegas Grocery Stores Pull Super Expensive Brands From Shelves?
It seems that each week when we go shopping at the grocery store the prices are higher. I thought the supply-chain problems were behind us. Nevertheless, many items on grocery store shelves continue to see price increases. With that in mind, it is interesting to learn about a major chain in Europe who is banning expensive brands from their store shelves. Will that soon happen in Las Vegas grocery stores?
Grocery Store Chain Pulls PepsiCo Products From Shelves
Without a doubt, most consumers are feeling the pinch of trying to make ends meet. Even if you’ve received a pay increase, it probably isn’t keeping up with inflation and rising consumer prices. The best we can do as consumers is just try and find the lowest prices on the items we need. Then, we must be cautious about buying those extras we want, but don’t really need.
It sure would be nice if major companies and grocery chains could come together to help the consumer. As a matter of fact, there’s a huge supermarket chain in Europe which is taking a stand against a major brand. According to an article by Sylvie Corbet and Dee-Ann Durbin on APNews.com, Carrefour is pulling PepsiCo brands from their grocery store shelves. Why? Because Pepsi and Frito-Lay are jacking up their prices every quarter. Of course, the grocery store chain must pass those price increases on to the consumer. Finally, they’ve had enough.
It’s important to note that this particular global grocery store chain is pulling PepsiCo brands from their store shelves in France. That’s because there’s a new French law which will impose huge fines on supermarkets “if they don’t reach a deal with suppliers on prices by the end of the month.” The French government is trying to force companies to lower prices. We’ll see how that works.
The APNews.com article goes on to say the Carrefour ban on Pepsi and Frito-Lay products may soon spread to stores in other European countries if an agreement is not reached.
Will Las Vegas Supermarkets Ban Expensive Brands From Shelves?
So, will Las Vegas supermarkets soon follow suit and begin banning expensive brands from shelves? I don’t know how I would feel about that. On the one hand, I like this strategy of helping the consumer by trying to keep prices steady. Or even making them lower. On the other hand, I might be upset by trying to find one of my favorite brands not being available when I want it. It’s a tough question. Let’s just hope our local grocery store chains find a way to begin lowering prices before we all go broke.
