Deadheads everywhere know that wherever you find a Grateful Dead concert, you find Shakedown Street. Named after the band’s song, the event brings together art, music and shopping in a celebration of the Grateful Dead community spirit. And fans come from all over to mingle and get their swag on before a concert.

Shakedown Street: A Grateful Dead Concert Staple

Shakedowns have been popping up around Grateful Dead concerts for years. And with Dead & Company taking over a residency at the Las Vegas Sphere, fans were wondering if Shakedown Street would be happening in Sin City.

Those fans got their answer when an Instagram page with the handle @shakedownvegas popped up and announced Shakedown Street would indeed be there for the residency. However, according to liveforlivemusic.com, there had to be slight modifications for a summertime Vegas Shakedown. Due to excessive heat and the city's recent restrictions on street vendors, the organizers of Shakedown Vegas decided to move the party inside.

Details About Shakedown Vegas 2024

The chosen venue for Shakedown Vegas is the Tuscany Suites & Casino. The property's second floor has large conference room areas that makes it a perfect space for this event. Plus Tuscany is less than a mile from the Sphere. So fans can mingle, shop and still walk to the concert.

Shakedown Street is a lot of fun, whether or not you are headed to a Dead & Company concert. But even more fun if you are. The event features live music, art exhibits and over 80 vendors this year, according to thelist.vegas. The event is so vibrant and full of such a community of fans, it really is like half shopping bazaar and half tailgating party.

Shakedown Street gives fans the chance to get into the Grateful Dead spirit before a show. As well as to pick out outfits, accessories and souvenirs. This year's vendor list on shakedownvegas.com includes vendors from all over the country. As well as some local sellers, like The Honey Pot, Jammin' Tie Dye Studio, Jumbie Art and Duh Bomb Collection out of Vegas, Everything GD and Nomadic Movement out of Henderson, and Silver State Lamp Working out of Boulder City.

Looking good, Jerry Garcia. Wait, that's not Jerry Garcia. That's a Grateful Dead fan on his way to a concert.

Shakedown Vegas will be open every day of the Dead & Company Sphere residency. From 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. on select dates through July 13. Find it on the second floor of the Tuscany Suites & Casino. Just look for the escalator when you walk in.

5 Artists Who Haven’t Sold Their Catalog

Artists who haven't sold their catalog are seemingly a smaller number with every passing year. After all, there have been numerous artists in recent years who have sold their music catalog and other properties for a massive price tag.

In 2024, there four major catalog sales. In February, Rod Steward sold his catalog to Irving Azoff's Iconic Artists Group for $100 million. In June 2023, Billboardreported Stewart was close to a catalog deal with Hipgnosis. Sale talks went on for two years only for Stewart to back out.

In April, KISS sold its catalog, name, logo and makeup rights to Pophouse for a reported $300 million. Pophouse, a Swedish entertainment and music investment firm, already had a relationship with the band and is the creative force behind the creation of the KISS Avatars.

Pink Floyd sold their recorded rights to Sony for $400 million in October. The deal also included the band's name and the band's "likeness," but the band still retained their songwriting rights.

And then, there's the sale of Queen's catalog. In June, the legendary band sold their catalog to Sony Music for a staggering $1.27 billion. The Queen/Sony catalog deal omits revenue rights for live performances, which will be retained by Brian May and Roger Taylor.

Needless to say, an artist has the potential to set their family up for multiple generations with the strategic sale of their catalog. However, there are still some artists who've opted to not sell (for now). Here are five artists who haven't sold their catalog.
