How To Help Those In Need After The Las Vegas Shootings

Las Vegas is known for bright lights and being one of the few places in the world where you can live out your wildest fantasies, but few know that we are also one of the most tight-knit communities in the country that supports each other like no other when needed.

If you are looking for ways that you can help those affected by the senseless act of violence or if you are in need of assistance, we have compiled a list for you below.

Find Loved Ones

A family reunification center has been established at the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department Headquarters at 400 S. Martin Luther King Blvd, Building B.  The public can also call 1-800-536-9488, this is a new phone number that was established Monday evening.

Emotional Assistance

If you are someone you know are deeply saddened by Sunday’s events, counseling and emotional support is available.

United Way and Nevada 211 Information are available to connect anyone to needed resources. Local numbers are asked to dial 2-1-1 and all others can dial 866-535-5654.

MGM Resorts has established a hotline at 702-692-2300 and toll-free at 888-634-7111. Other inquiries can be answered at their call center at 855-788-6775.

MGM Resorts International also needs certified trauma counselors. Anyone able can volunteer their time at Circus Circus Ballroom D at 2880 S. Las Vegas Boulevard.

Las Vegas Counseling Center will also be offering free counseling services throughout the week. Anyone affected can call 702-466-3750.

Magellan Health, Inc., has opened a 24-hour crisis hotline. Those impacted can call toll-free 1-800-327-7451.

Optum’s free emotional-support helpline will be made available 24 hours a day, seven days a week at 1-866-342-6892.

The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration is opening its disaster distress helpline at 1-800-985-5990 or text “TalkWithUs” to 66746 to get in contact with a professional.
SilverSummit Healthplan has established a 24-hour toll-free crisis hotline at 1-877-941-8079 for all those affected around the state.

The Community Counseling Center will be open from 6:30 to 8 p.m. each day this week to provide counselors to help those needed. It is located at 714 E. Sahara Avenue.

United Citizens Foundation is offering free behavioral health services to anyone needing assistance during this difficult time. United Citizens Foundation is a nonprofit organization established to address behavioral health and substance abuse in Southern Nevada. Licensed therapists are available to provide counseling services at the North Las Vegas office of United Citizens Foundation by calling (702) 485-1718.

In response to Sunday night’s mass shooting in Las Vegas, the UNLV School of Medicine is providing free Crisis Support to members of the public affected by the tragedy. If you or a loved one needs to speak to someone, the professionals at the Mojave Counseling Clinic on West Charleston can help. The clinic is staffed by psychiatrists, marriage and family therapists, and licensed clinical social workers. All are trained to help individuals work through the myriad of issues brought about by this type of tragedy. The sessions will be private and free of charge, no insurance necessary. Oasis Counseling, LLC, a private outpatient mental health clinic, announced it will be offering free trauma assessments for anyone affected by the deadly mass shooting. All three of the Oasis Counseling locations will be accepting individuals for initial assessments free of charge. The offices are located at the following addresses: 375 N. Stephanie St. Bldg. 8, Henderson, NV 89014; 2360 W. Horizon Ridge Pkwy. Ste. 120, Henderson, NV 89052; and 7361 Prairie Falcon Rd Ste. 110, Las Vegas, NV 89128. Anyone interested in receiving treatment should contact Oasis Counseling at 702-294-0433 or visit the website at www.OasisCounselingToday.com for more information.

Well Care Services’ phone lines at 702-291-7121 are available 24 hours a day for those who need assistance and free trauma and grief counseling.

FirstMed Health and Wellness Center (FirstMed), a community-based health center serving Las Vegas’ underserved populations, is ready and willing to assist victims of last night’s tragic shooting by offering free medical, counseling, prescription review and refills (as appropriate) and support services. FirstMed Clinic Locations: 3343 South Eastern Avenue, Las Vegas, NV 89169 and 400 Shadow Lane, Suite 106, Las Vegas, NV 89106.

There are Grief and Bereavement services available through Nathan Adelson Hospice and its spiritual staff is fully engaged in providing guidance to those who have suffered loss. Community members can contact via email [email protected]

Pathways Therapy and Wellness Center in Henderson is offering trauma and grief groups for the next several weeks, along with individual sessions. The schedule so far is Mondays at 10 a.m., Tuesdays at 5:30 p.m., Wednesdays at 10 a.m., Thursdays at 2 p.m., Fridays at 1 p.m. and Saturdays at 3 p.m. Anyone seeking any of these services can call the main line at 702-363-7284 and should leave a voicemail if the answering service is on.

Internet Assistance

Cox Las Vegas is providing all Valley residents and visitors free access to its nearly 500 outdoor CableWiFi hotspots located in Southern Nevada. To find a hotspot, use the link www.cox.com/hotspots and type in an address and follow the on-screen instructions. Smart devices should connect automatically. Free access to the Cox Hotspots is effective immediately through Oct. 10 during the response to this community tragedy.

Hotel Rooms For Families Affected

Several valley hospitality groups are offering rooms to relatives of victims.  So far, Boyd Gaming, Station Casinos, Siegel Suites, and the South Point Hotel have offered assistance. Airbnb has also set up a website for those who would like to offer rooms and shelter to those affected.  If you need housing or would like to offer housing, click here for more information.

Flights For Those Affected

Las Vegas based Allegiant Airlines has offered flight assistance for those affected or for their families. United, American Airlines, and Southwest Airlines are waiving change fees for anyone traveling to or from Las Vegas. For Southwest Airlines information, click here.

Also, Las Vegas based Miracle Flights will offer free flights for those impacted.

Ride-sharing Assistance

Both Lyft and Uber are offering free rides to blood donation centers and hospitals.  Use the links below to download any necessary codes.  United Nissan is also offering ride assistance to anyone who would like to donate blood.

Financial Donation Information

1. Las Vegas Victim’s Fund – County Commissioner Steve Sisolak and Sheriff Joe Lombardo have started a Go Fund Me campaign to raise money for victims and families to provide relief and financial aid.  As of 11:30 am Tuesday morning, the campaign has raised well over $3 million dollars with Commissioner Sisolak promising that every dollar will go to those affected.  To donate, please click here.
2. Online retailer Zappos, who has their headquarters here in downtown Las Vegas, has started a fund raising campaign which will match donations up to $1 million dollars.  You can contribute to their campaign here.
3. The National Compassion Fund is also accepting donations to support the immediate and long-term needs of victims.  Donations to this fund are held separately from donations to the National Center for Victims of Crime and will be distributed directly to those affected.  To donate, please click here.

Donation Information

Due to the outpouring of support, it is being advised that those who wish to donate blood schedule an appointment online at bloodhero.com.  As of Monday evening, United Blood Services is reporting that they have met their needs for shooting victims at this time.

The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department also announced that they have received a “tremendous” amount of food donations from valley residents, but they do not have the ability to “coordinate delivery or distribution.”  They are asking that if you’d like to donate food, please do so through bottled water or sealed food to the American Red Cross at 1771 E. Flamingo Rd.

The public is being advised that before they head out to a location to donate blood or goods to first contact the location as some are overwhelmed and blood is perishable.

First Responders Assistance

While the support for the victims and the families of the shootings has been tremendous, the outpouring of support for first responders has been just as tremendous with numerous businesses offering their services to help those who help us.

The El Cortez Hotel & Casino is offering a free meal to all law enforcement and hospital workers at Siegel’s 1941 with proof of employment now through Sunday, October 8th.

The Streets of New York Pizzerias located at 5135 S. Fort Apache and 7570 Norman Rockwell Lane will offer free pizza to first responders and anyone who donates blood for the victims of the Las Vegas Strip shooting.
