A young, Caucasian heterosexual couple in their late twenties to early thirties searching the internet with sexual wellness questions. They are laying on a bed with a white cover searching on a laptop computer. They are both wearing white t-shirts.

Sooner or later, this had to happen. Generally, one can research or review just about any topic on the internet nowadays. With this in mind, the folks at Bedbible.com decided to analyze the number of sexual wellness internet searches, state by state. (Editor’s note: Bedbible.com is an adult-only website which displays sexual toys. The website is not suitable for viewing by minors or by those who do not wish to view these types of objects.)

Here’s How The Sexual Wellness Internet Search Rankings Work

Basically, all of the sexual wellness Google search queries were combined to come up with state-by-state rankings. For instance, if someone in Idaho searches the topic “men sexual health,” that counts as one query for that state. Then, if someone in Ohio types into the search bar “symptoms for herpes,” that counts as one query for that state.

Obviously, the sheer total of internet searches for the most populous states would put locations like California, New York, and Texas at the top of the list. However, they determine the final rankings by the average number of sexual wellness internet searches per 100,000 people.

How The Study Determines A Sexual Wellness Internet Search

Furthermore, the study includes 93 Google search terms and phrases. For example, searches to prevent certain sexually transmitted diseases were very common. Moreover, definitions for sexually related diseases and their symptoms were also frequent queries. In like manner, searches for treatments for sexually related ailments were also included.

While many of us would rather not make these questions a topic of discussion amongst friends, co-workers, or family members, the anonymity of doing an internet search can be useful. In any case, make sure you educate yourself with verified information when using the internet. And it’s always a good idea to discuss these matters with a qualified physician.

Some Interesting Notes From The Study

One of the most interesting findings in the study reveals that “symptoms of Chlamydia” is the most searched sexual wellness term across all fifty states. That term averages close to 300,000 Google searches per month. Yikes!

Before we take a look at the top 10 states making sexual wellness queries on the internet, let’s find out which state has the fewest searches per capita. It’s our neighbors to the north in Idaho, who average 603 sexual wellness searches per 100,000 each month. Is that good or bad? I’m really not sure when it comes to this study.

And now, the ten states making the most sexually related internet searches each month.

  • 10) Florida

The folks in “The Sunshine State” rank tenth in this survey with an average of 1,045 internet searches per 100,000 people per month. I’ve seen reports that there are quite a few retirement communities in Florida where sexually transmitted diseases run rampant. I guess when you retire, and it’s so hot and humid outside, there’s nothing better to do.

  • 9) Alabama

Alabama claims the ninth position in the study, but just barely. They average 1,048 sexual wellness internet searches per 100,000 people. Alabama is one of six states in the southeastern region of the United States that make the top 10 in this study. What’s going on down there?

  • 8) New York

The folks in “The Empire State” rank eighth in the study. New Yorkers pull in with an average of 1,065 sexual wellness internet searches per 100,000 people. One interesting note, residents are searching on male sexual health topics at double the rate of female wellness themes.

  • 7) Lousiana

Ah yes, the state of Louisiana, home of the city nicknamed “The Big Easy.” Of course, we’re referring to New Orleans. The French Quarter in downtown New Orleans is one of America’s party capitals, and residents in this state search mostly for sexually transmitted disease topics. Louisiana takes seventh place with an average of 1,068 searches per 100,000 people.

  • 6) Nevada

All of us here in “The Silver State” show up in the sixth position in this study with an average of 1,079 sexual wellness internet searches per 100,000 people. Certainly, the entertainment, partying, and gambling meccas of Las Vegas and Reno see lots of folks visiting from out-of-state. Are they the ones making most of these internet searches, or is it our residents. It’s tough to determine that from this study. However, they don’t call Las Vegas “Sin City” for nothing.

  • 5) Mississippi

Mississippi residents claim the fifth position in the study, just barely inching out all of us here in Nevada. Mississippians average 1,080 sexual wellness queries per 100,000 people. Here’s another state from the southeastern region of the U.S.A. making the top 10. It’s gotta be the humidity, right?

  • 4) North Carolina

Folks in North Carolina, another state in the southeastern region, average 1,088 sexual wellness internet searches per 100,000 people to take fourth place. This state is home to a variety of geographical elevations, from the Appalachian Mountains in the west, to the coastal beaches on the Atlantic Ocean in the east. It’s interesting to note how many of the states in the top 10 of this study have beaches as part of their geography.

  • 3) Maryland

When you think of Maryland, you think of crabs. Not the sexually transmitted ones, but the Chesapeake blue crab and similar creatures. However, the people of this small coastal state make the top three in this study with an average of 1,100 sexual wellness searches per 100,000 people.

  • 2) Texas

The saying goes: “Everything’s bigger in Texas!” Well, I guess that also applies to this study, where folks in “The Lone Star State” take the runner-up spot. Texans make an average of 1,110 sexual wellness queries on the internet per month. What’s going on with all those cowboys and cowgirls?

  • 1) Georgia

Well, ain’t that a peach? The residents in the state of Georgia, famous for it’s peaches, claim the top spot in this survey for sexual wellness internet searches with 1,298 per 100,000 people. It wasn’t even close! Two of the most searched phrases by Georgians were “How to improve sexual health” and “Sexual health clinic.” I guess folks there have more than “Georgia on My Mind.”
