Another Hurdle Overcome In Bringing The Oakland A’s To Las Vegas
Sports fans in Oakland, California must really hate the city of Las Vegas. Their beloved Oakland Raiders moved here to become primary tenants of Allegiant Stadium on the Las Vegas Strip. Now, another hurdle has been overcome which could lead to the Oakland A’s moving to Sin City.
To be honest with you, I really feel sorry for the sports fans of Oakland. It used to be a city of champions back in the day, and now teams are leaving in droves. The folks there look across the bay and see Major League Baseball, National Basketball Association, and National Football League teams thriving in San Francisco. And now, it appears the only major league team remaining in the city, the Oakland A’s, will be leaving no matter what happens.
According to an article written by The Associated Press and posted on Fox5Vegas.com, Major League Baseball Commissioner Rob Manfred said the Oakland A’s would have their relocation fee waived if they decide to move to Las Vegas. The A’s have been playing in the Oakland Coliseum since 1968. Through the years, they have tried to come to terms with the City of Oakland on building a new ballpark, but the two sides can never seem to agree.
Then, in November 2018, both the team and the city’s governing bodies found a waterfront location that would be perfect for a new ballpark. “But the city of Oakland missed a key October deadline for finalizing an agreement with the A’s on the $12 billion project,” per The Associated Press article.
That same website post went on to state that Commissioner Manfred was speaking at the MLB winter meetings in San Diego on Tuesday and said, “We’re past any reasonable timeline for the situation in Oakland to be resolved.” So, we could be seeing another major league team moving here after the 2024 season. Stay tuned sports fans!
