Peter Gabriel is releasing a new album, and he’s dropping singles like crazy.

The forthcoming album is the first one of new material that Gabriel has done in 21 years. His last album, Up, was released in 2002. The always-eccentric Gabriel started releasing singles from the new album in January 2023. The method by which he has dropped new songs is interesting. He’s doing it on every full moon and every new moon, according to wikipedia.org. Which means the next one should be coming on August 30 when the second full moon appears this month.

Two songs are better than one.

Another unique thing about this album is that every song has two versions. The Bright Side Mix and the Dark Side Mix. Each version is mixed by a different person.  Mark “Spike” Stent is an English producer who has worked with Madonna, U2, Depeche Mode and others. He’s behind the Bright Side mixes. The Dark Side songs are being done by Tchad Blake, an American producer and audio engineer.

For the most part, only the Bright Side mixes are the ones released on the full moons. Most of the Dark Side mixes are being released on the new moon following their Bright Side versions. Gabriel has said that he has over a hundred songs he’s worked on but not released. And thinks he might keep dropping new music in the fashion of aligning with the phases of the moon (wikipedia.org).

i/o The Tour.

Gabriel is planning to begin touring next month to support the new album. Called I/O, the title stands for “Inside/Outside”. And, according to wikipedia.org, I/O is also the name of one of Jupiter’s moons. Which goes along with the theme of Gabriel’s release dates for the album’s tracks. Gabriel released a trailer for I/O The Tour on his YouTube page a week ago.

The tour will travel through the UK and Europe. There are still three more tracks from I/O that have yet to drop. Here are the ones we’ve gotten so far. – Wendy Rush, 96.3 KKLZ

  • 1. Panopticom

This was the first single to be released from the i/o album. It dropped on January 6, 2023, on the Wolf Moon.

  • 2. The Court

The second song from the album is The Court. The Dark Side mix was released on the new moon on February 5, 2023. This version is…kinda… well, dark.

  • 3. Playing For a Time

Playing For A Time was the third single to come out from the new album. Released on the Worm Moon on March 7, 2023.

  • 4. i/o

The title track i/o is the next single released. It dropped on the Pink Moon on April 6, 2023. And the track graphic is hypnotic. Might not want to stare at it too long.

  • 5. Four Kinds of Horses

The Bright Side version of the fifth song from i/o, titled Four Kinds of Horses, dropped on May 5, 2023. Which is known as the Full Moon of Flowers.

  • 6. Road To Joy

The Bright Side version of the sixth single was released on June 4, 2023. Known as the Strawberry Moon, maybe it inspired the color of the track artwork. Although that doesn’t explain the middle fingers. An interesting choice for a song titled Road To Joy.

  • 7. So Much

Song number seven was released in its Dark Side version first. It dropped on July 3 2023, coinciding with The Buck Moon. The Bright Side version was released on the following new moon on July 17.

  • 8. Olive Tree

The most recent song to drop is Olive Tree. The Bright Side version came out on August 1. Which was the date of the Full Sturgeon Moon.
