Or Bono, or Peter Cetera, or Mr. Mister. He has a crazy ear for sounding like some of our favorite artists.

Jason Derlatka is a singer and keyboardist currently on tour with Journey. And whenever we hear this guy, OG Journey fans can’t help but wonder, is he the next lead singer? Arnel Pineda has been filling the role for 15 years, and some have said he’s getting tired. And with Jason being added to the Journey line-up AND singing some of the songs, well it’s entirely impossible. Especially since Jason sounds a lot more like Steve Perry than Arnel does. Don’t get us wrong, Arnel is a very sweet guy and he’s been doing some amazing things with the band. But those of us who grew up with the Steve Perry sound, will always be faithful to it, or the closest we can get to it!

So who is the man behind the keyboard? Jason is an Emmy-nominated composer. If you’ve ever seen video of him noodling, you know this guy is amazing behind a keyboard. He’s written for shows like Perfect Harmony, The Resident, Goliath, House MD, Parenthood and more. Jason started playing piano at the age of 4. Growing up in Montana, he started studying music at the University of Montana at the young age of 11. While pursuing his Bachelors of Arts Degree in music there, Jason met David Foster, which inspired him to moved to L.A. after graduation.

Since moving to California, Jason has also composed music for countless national commercial campaigns and multi-platinum selling recording artists.

He’s on the road with Journey right now for their Freedom tour, and will be at the exclusive Las Vegas residency that kicks of this month at Resorts World Las Vegas.

So we searched the web and found some of our favorite covers from Jason where he sounds a lot like people we know. Sometimes it’s hard to tell the difference between him and Steve Perry, or him and Bono. But even the covers he does that don’t quite nail the original singer’s sound, he sure does get close. Here’s a list of our favorites.
