Peter Gabriel is releasing a new album, and he’s dropping singles like crazy.
The forthcoming album is the first one of new material that Gabriel has done in 21 years. His last album, Up, was released in 2002. The always-eccentric Gabriel started releasing singles from the new album in January 2023. The method by which he has dropped new songs is interesting. He’s doing it on every full moon and every new moon, according to wikipedia.org. Which means the next one should be coming on August 30 when the second full moon appears this month.
Two songs are better than one.
Another unique thing about this album is that every song has two versions. The Bright Side Mix and the Dark Side Mix. Each version is mixed by a different person. Mark “Spike” Stent is an English producer who has worked with Madonna, U2, Depeche Mode and others. He’s behind the Bright Side mixes. The Dark Side songs are being done by Tchad Blake, an American producer and audio engineer.
For the most part, only the Bright Side mixes are the ones released on the full moons. Most of the Dark Side mixes are being released on the new moon following their Bright Side versions. Gabriel has said that he has over a hundred songs he’s worked on but not released. And thinks he might keep dropping new music in the fashion of aligning with the phases of the moon (wikipedia.org).
i/o The Tour.
Gabriel is planning to begin touring next month to support the new album. Called I/O, the title stands for “Inside/Outside”. And, according to wikipedia.org, I/O is also the name of one of Jupiter’s moons. Which goes along with the theme of Gabriel’s release dates for the album’s tracks. Gabriel released a trailer for I/O The Tour on his YouTube page a week ago.
The tour will travel through the UK and Europe. There are still three more tracks from I/O that have yet to drop. Here are the ones we’ve gotten so far. – Wendy Rush, 96.3 KKLZ
