People are leaving their home state and moving to Las Vegas, according to a recent study about 2022 moving trends.

As home, condo, townhome, etc. prices decreases and buyers pull back, we may see another “great Las Vegas” migration once home prices are low enough.

Moving to Vegas definitely has its perks. No state income tax, great weather for the most part, no mosquitos, a general low-cost of living when compared to other major cities like LA, New York or Chicago. And there’s never an issue on where to go, what to eat and what to do.

Living in Las Vegas is so desirable that our population has grown for the past 10 years. According to a study done by 24/7 Wall Street, Vegas’ population grew nearly 19 percent from 2010 to 2020. The overall population in Nevada grew by 16% during the same time period.

By 2060, the University of Nevada Las Vegas Center for Business and Economic Research predicts that Southern Nevada’s population will reach 3.3 + million people, which is a significant increase.

As people leave their own state, Nevada seems to be a prime destination for those who are seeking economic opportunity, a chance in pace or just want to re-locate for a better cost of living.

For those who are born-and-bred Las Vegans then this list may be slightly annoying to you. I mean, there is a saying about specific drivers (we’re talking to you, California and maybe Utah).

But, we encourage our native Las Vegas residents to relish in our state’s success! I mean, let’s face it. It’s better to be a destination than a city people are looking to escape from.

As a non-native resident of Clark County, I can attest that moving to Las Vegas was one of the best decisions I’ve ever made. From escaping blizzards, horrible congested city traffic and enjoying the plethora of entertainment, it’s no wonder why people are moving to Vegas.

Stacker compiled a list of the top 10 states that people are moving from, see the list below. Sorry to these states and cities for stealing their residents. We hope there are no hard feelings.

  • 5) Chicago-Naperville-Elgin, IL-IN-WI Metro Area

    CHicago

It looks like people are leaving the Windy City for another city that is the “windy city” of the West! Chicago is the fifth-most-popular state when it comes to where people are coming from when relocating to Las Vegas.

  • 4) San Diego-Chula Vista-Carlsbad, CA Metro Area

    San Diego

It looks like San Diego is sending its residents to Las Vegas by a large amount. Possibly the high cost of living contributes to the reason why people are flocking away from beautiful San Diego and coming to Viva Las Vegas.

  • 3) Phoenix-Mesa-Chandler, AZ Metro Area

    Arizona

Phoenix is another city that is losing a few of its residents to Las Vegas. According to Stacker, Las Vegas is the eight-most-popular relocation destination for those who are moving out of Phoenix.

  • Riverside-San Bernardino-Ontario, CA Metro Area

    San Bernardino

Let’s hear it one time for Riverside! But sadly, we’re stealing residents from Riverside-San Bernardino-Ontario area. According to Stacker, Las Vegas is the fourth-most-popular destination for those from Riverside.

  • 1) Los Angeles-Long Beach-Anaheim, CA Metro Area

    Los Angeles

Los Angeles takes the #1 spot for cities that are sending their residents to live in Las Vegas! However, Los Angeles is also the most-popular city that people from Las Vegas end up relocating to.
