Internet Outage: DMV And Nevada State Agency Offices Shut Down
Officials are claiming that an internet outage has caused Nevada Department of Motor Vehicle offices, plus many other state agency offices to unexpectedly shut down today (Friday, October 14).
According to an article posted by the Fox 5 Staff on Fox5Vegas.com, a fire has caused damage to fiber optic connections. The Nevada Department of Administration sent out the initial report on Thursday evening that there was a fiber connection issue which was affecting all websites associated with the state of Nevada. Then, early this morning, state officials tweeted a message that state government websites were still unavailable “due to a physical failure with fiber connection.”
Subsequent tweets from the Nevada Department of Administration have included information about Nevada Department of Motor Vehicle offices closing for the day, and the fact that the fiber connection failure was caused by fire. These tweets also included information which stated that repair work was ongoing, but there was no estimated time of return to full service on DMV or other state agency websites.
If you have a Twitter account and you would like to follow along with further messages from the Nevada Department of Administration on this or other topics, you can do so at @NVDeptofAdm.
In the meantime, we hope you did not have any urgent business to conduct with the Nevada Department of Motor Vehicles or any other Nevada state agency office today as it appears to be a day off for everyone employed by these agencies…except for the repair workers.
