Las Vegas Map Explained By YouTuber
Trying to explain Las Vegas is tough for people inside of the City Of Las Vegas, never mind the people outside. The Las Vegas Strip isn’t in Las Vegas. People think they live in Summerlin but actually don’t. You might write “Las Vegas” on your mail but you can’t vote for mayor. So to see the Las Vegas map explained by a YouTuber from Salt Lake City is actually kind of amusing, and frankly educational.
Interesting To See Las Vegas Map Explained From The Outside
YouTuber Daniel Steiner has a series of videos called Map, Explained. He has looked into cities around the world to get a better idea of how the cities we see today became the cities we see today. Las Vegas Map Explained takes a dive into the history of Las Vegas and the parts of the map that even us locals might overlook.
One of the interesting things you may fail to recognize is that the Downtown Las Vegas you know today was actually the second act. The original townsite of Las Vegas came from a man named J.T. McWilliams. He had the whole situation planned out until the railroads decided to make the townsite “east of the tracks”.
J.T. McWilliams vision was dashed. But he does have a school named after him and that land would later be the home of many of the valley’s black population.
From Downtown to the Hoover Dam, the video takes a very thoughtful approach to explain the origin story of our tiny desert town turned bustling metro area. Even how prohibition really got the mob and organized crime embedded into the city.
The entire video is a full 23 minutes and frankly should be required viewing for any kid – and adult – living in Southern Nevada. Las Vegas Map Explained is a great video and worth the watch (and subscribe). Hey, you might learn something.
