Valentines Day is quickly approaching. Many people feel it is the most romantic day of the year. Some folks feel it is just a holiday made up by greeting card manufacturers, candy shops, jewelry and diamond dealers, and florists. No matter which side of the equation your opinion falls, it is always a good time to show your partner how much you love them. In fact, you may be feeling pressure to get something awesome for your sweetheart this year. So that’s why we want you to check out what the rest of America is buying for Valentines Day gifts.

According to an article on Scholaroo.com, recent data and digital trends show that 52% of Americans plan on celebrating Valentines Day this year, and 9% say they are actually going to spend more money on a gift for their sweetheart than they did last year.

The Most Popular Gifts For Valentines Day In Nevada

The website posting goes on to list the top five Valentines Day gifts for each state. Here in Nevada, a box of chocolates was the most popular choice. Then, you have gift cards, underwear, clothes, and pajamas, in that order. No, jewelry didn’t even make the top five gift items here in the Silver State. Are we getting cheap or what?

Nevada is one of 11 states which choose chocolates as the number one gift item. Twenty-four states list jewelry as their favorite present for this holiday of romance. Flowers are the favorite Valentines Day gift item in seven states. Our neighbors to the east in Utah chose stuffed toy animals as the gift of choice, as did their neighbors to the east in Colorado. Furthermore, gift cards are what many folks in five midwestern states, plus Vermont, will be receiving on February 14th.

Now, feel free to scroll down to find out America’s top 10 Valentines Day gift items, according to Schoolaroo.com.

  • 10) Candles

Whether you prefer them scented or unscented, candles are a romantic way to light up the night while you celebrate Valentines Day. Don’t burn yourself, and make sure you douse those things before you retire for the night. You don’t want a hot romantic night turning into a tragedy.

  • 9) Mug

On a white background, there is a white tray. On the left side of the tray is a white, heart-shaped coffee mug filled with frothy coffee. On the right side of the tray is one red rose in full bloom, with green leaves underneath it.

I thought this was more of a Secretary’s Day gift, a Mother’s Day gift, or a Father’s Day gift. But, I guess some people don’t mind a nice big coffee or hot chocolate mug for Valentines Day. If there is writing on it, make sure it conveys your romantic thoughts and feelings. However, I wouldn’t hand it to my sweetheart if it was filled with piping hot coffee.

  • 8) Pajamas

Whether you prefer them warm and comfy, or sexy and revealing, pajamas are the eighth most popular Valentines Day gift in America according to the Scholaroo.com article. The type of pajamas you buy your sweetheart says a lot about how long you’ve been in that relationship. I better not get Spiderman pajamas again this year!

  • 7) Underwear

The article lists underwear as the 7th most popular Valentines Day gift in the U.S.A., but I am thinking many of the digital trends they surveyed leaned more towards lingerie on the most romantic day of the year. I can’t imagine getting boxer shorts on February 14th. Well, at least they’re comfortable.

  • 6) Clothing

A young woman photographed against a sky blue background. She appears to be jumping up. She is looking at a smart phone held in her left hand. Her right hand is placed on the right side of her head, and her mouth is agape, as if she is surprised. She is wearing bright red long pants, bright red boots, and a white sweatshirt decorated with red hearts.

A beautiful sweater, an expensive jacket, or any other nice clothing item can be a great way to gift the one you love on Valentines Day. Make it a nice, thoughtful gift. A package of white athletic socks isn’t going to do the trick in the romance department.

  • 5) Stuffed Animal Toys

Stuffed teddy bears, dogs, cats, lions, frogs, or whatever type of animal your loved one really adores is a cuddly way to celebrate Valentines Day in the gift department. How many stuffed snakes do you think are going to be gifted this year? You never know what people are into, I guess.

  • 4) Gift Cards

The gift card seems a little bit impersonal to me. But, I guess if you know what your romantic partner likes, what they really, really like, then I think a gift card can be a nice present for your Valentines Day sweetie. Just don’t cheap out with a $10 card. Show some love!

  • 3) Flowers

There are gold letters on black backgrounds on these blocks. The blocks are placed on the table to spell the word "love." Behind the blocks, a glass jar candle, which is lit.

Now we’re getting down to what I feel are the most traditional Valentines Day gift items. Roses are always a good choice on February 14th. You can always go online and purchase a beautiful bouquet, or other arrangement, which will light up your Valentine’s smile on that romantic day.

  • 2) Box of Chocolates

For the sweet tooth in all of us, a box of chocolates always seems like a great gift on Valentines Day. Do you like your chocolates nutty and crunchy, or do you prefer them creamy and smooth? Either way, get that heart-shaped box of delicious morsels to your loved one before you cheat and open the box and start snacking on them yourself.

  • 1) Jewelry

The photograph focuses on his outstretched hands, which are holding an open, red, heart-shaped jewelry box. Inside the box is a diamond engagement ring, with three diamonds on the band. There are out-of-focus lights in the background.

If “diamonds are a girl’s best friend,” then jewelry is the perfect way to impress your romantic partner. Rings, watches, necklaces, bracelets. Platinum, gold or silver. Bejeweled or not. It may cost you more than you wanted to spend, but jewelry is without a doubt the number one Valentines Day gift item in America.
