Sexy Halloween costumes are undeniably one of the most controversial aspects of the holiday.

From the blasphemous nun costumes to the school girl outfits and more. These type of costumes are often the topics of debate when it comes to what’s acceptable and not acceptable to wear as a sexualized costume. But despite all of the debate, we’ll probably continue to see people turning innocent, mundane ideas into sexy costumes. ‘Tis the season for Halloween parties.

When Did People Start Wearing Sexy Costumes?

But where does the history of sexy costumes start? And why do girls wear lingered variations of once innocent costumes. As women, the right of passage into “womanhood” can also be signified by donning a “sexy costume” for the first time. The most common sexy costumes include cats, bunnies, police officers, certain characters from movies and so much more. Literally, anything can be a sexy costume.

According to the Huff Post, during the early 20th Century when Halloween was first starting to become popular, women would dress up in “exotic” and “glamorous” clothing. However, the actual sexualization of the holiday wouldn’t bloom until later.

With the mix of Hollywood glamour of the early ’40s and ’50s, women started taking promotional shots in “little” witch or cat costumes, Huff Post states. At the same time, Halloween was also becoming more commercialized, according to the History Channel.

The rise of the “sexy” Halloween costume is rooted in LGBTQ+ history as well, Pop Sugar reported. Many Gay Liberation movements, parties and safe spaces started celebrating Halloween with parades where many attendees adorned risqué costumes. Along with the feminism movement during that time and other iconic pop-culture figures like Elvira, the mixture of societal characteristics and movements exploded the commercialization of sexy costumes.

Sexy Costumes: What To Not Turn ‘Sexy’

Now, we literally have every concept “sexified” into a costume. There’s a sexy banana bread costume, a sexy “tater thot” costume, and even a sexy Ken Bone costume (remember Ken Bone: the innocent old man who went viral during the 2016 presidential debate). Overall, we recommend staying away from costumes that could be offensive. Religious costumes usually cause more harm than good. Also, anything that could be a politically and socially sensitive topic is probably best to avoid when deciding your 2023 Halloween costume.

Anyways, Let’s Look At Some Sexy Costumes!

Kendall Jenner as Austin Powers Fembot

Kendall Jenner dressed as an iconic figure from the Austin Powers movies.

This costume is so fun! In 2018, Kendall Jenner attended the Casamigos Halloween party at CATCH in the Aria Resort & Casino. She dressed up as the fembot in the “Austin Powers” movie. The character itself was a satirical representation of beauty standards and the objectification of women. But, it’s still a sexy costume, and there’s no denying that. Plus, Kendall Jenner pretty much looks gorgeous in anything.

  • Holly Madison Being Sexy

Holly Madison is one of my favorite celebrates ever. Her story embodies resilience, and it’s a true rags-to-riches story with the perfect sprinkle of Las Vegas lore. Her story to the start of stardom started with Playboy, but it didn’t end there. Since her departure from the Playboy life, she’s written books, exposed the factory of abuse that young models are often exposed to and so much more.

She’s the perfect lethal weapon of beauty, brains and bite. The photo we used is definitely sexy. But, scroll through her social media, and you’ll see a plethora of very creative costumes that are intricate in design. We love some Holly!

Halloween during the Golden Knights’ season is chillingly scary.

In 2019, the Vegas Golden Knights’ Guard wore zombie makeup amid a game against the Montreal Canadiens at T-Mobile Arena during a Halloween game. We love when our sports gets involved with these fun holidays! There’s something still kind of “sexy” about zombie makeup.

Halloween Party with girls dancing on tables

    Treasure Island circa 2005.

Ah. The days of “on-the-Strip” parties that were almost like “ragers.” (slang for a big party). Here is a photo of party-goers, who were partying hard in 2005 at the Treasure Island Hotel & Casino’s Halloween party inside of the now-defunct Tangerine Lounge & Nightclub. Those were the good days. These costumes seemed to emulate Victoria’s Secret angels.

  • Las Vegas Promo Models Are Just Different: More Sexy Costumes

These beautiful promotional models were working the CATCH and Casamigos Halloween party in 2018. The models are wearing sugar skull makeup, which is pretty fitting for the tequila that they’re trying to promote.

    UNLV Rebel Dancers

UNLV Rebels cheerleaders dressed up for Halloween.

This photo is adorable! During a game in 2011, the UNLV Rebels went against the Colorado State Rams at Sam Boyd Stadium. The cheerleaders transformed into ladybugs for the performance. And what’s more exciting is that UNLV won 38-35.
