Frontier Airlines Flight Catches On Fire After Emergency Landing In Vegas
This is truly a nightmare for anyone flying: According to CNN, a Frontier Airlines flight allegedly caught on fire after a hard landing at the Harry Reid International Airport on Saturday.
Frontier Airlines posted a statement on X that said the aircraft was in the process of landing at Harry Reid International Airport around 3:15 p.m. when pilots “detected smoke and declared an emergency.”
The aircraft landed “safely” and everyone was evacuated using the airstairs upon landing. Officials said there were no reported injuries, and the passengers were bussed to the terminal. The total number of passengers was 190 and seven crew members were on board.
CNN obtained video from the incident that showed flames “under the plane and a trail of smoke” after the plane landed. The plane experienced a hard landing and the tires on the plane blew during that process, CNN reports.
Frontier Airlines Investigates Cause Of Aircraft Issues
Frontier Airlines said they would investigate the cause of the incident. Further, other official organizations like the National Transportation Safety Board said they would investigate this emergency landing as well.
A social media user on X (@TylerHerrick) captured the shocking landing of the aircraft. The video shows the plane landing abruptly on the runway with a few flames peeking from the underbelly of the aircraft. The fire quickly quelled as the airplane came to a stop.
A truck from the Clark County Fire Department was waiting on the runway. ABC News also reported that fire and rescue crews extinguished the fire.
Other Incidents Of Emergency Airplane Landings
In July, a WestJet flight took off to Edmonton International Airport in Canada. However after an hour into the flight, the flight crew returned back to Las Vegas after noting a possible issue with an engine, Channel 13 reported.
In November 2023, a Southwest Airlines flight also caught on fire and had to make an emergency landing at Harry Reid International Airport. There were no reported injuries at the time. The flight left Denver and was bound for San Diego before making the emergency landing, the Las Vegas Review-Journal reported.
