Could Southern Highlands Be Getting A Hospital Soon?
When it comes to real estate, they say it is all about “location, location, location”. Southern Highlands seems to have it all. Beautiful homes, easy access to the highway, security, schools, the works. The one thing the area has been lacking, however, is a proper hospital. Well, a new land deal just went down that could put a change to that.
Station Casinos recently purchased a bunch of land at Las Vegas Boulevard and Cactus. The land deal gave the locals casino giant 126 acres of land at the corner. But, there was only one issue. They already owned over 56 acres of land right across the street on the same intersection. Obviously they had no intention of operating two casinos next door to one another (as we’ve learned from Fiesta Rancho and Texas Station… RIP). So, they sold the smaller plot.
They sold the plot to HCA (Hospital Corporation Of America) for $62,300,000 in a deal that closed last month, but just came to light last week. HCA is the company that owns and operates Sunrise Hospital, Southern Hills Hospital and MountainView Hospital.
So when can we expect this thing?!
In the short term, a representative for HCA tells KLAS that they don’t have specific plans for the present time for the land. However, one can assume the hospital company will put a hospital there.
Southern Highlands has found themselves in a bit of an emergency healthcare desert. Barring smaller “ER” locations that are somewhere between an urgent care and a hospital, the neighborhood has quite the distance between them and the nearest hospital. The nearest hospital is over 6 miles away at St. Rose Dominican Siena at St Rose and Eastern. Another hospital, St. Rose Dominican San Martin at Warm Springs and Durango, is 8 miles away. Depending on traffic, drives to either location can easily go over 15 minutes.
This location could be a 2.2 mile trip from Smith’s in the center of Southern Highlands. Quite the improvement!
So while the hospital company bought the land and they aren’t announcing any plans quite yet, it’s safe to say a hospital may very well be in the neighborhood soon.
