Top Gun was one of the most commercially successful movies and soundtracks of the 80s. It was the #1 box office film of 1986, and the soundtrack has now gone 9 times platinum, with over 9 million copies sold. It has also been chosen by the Library of Congress to be preserved in the National Film Registry.
The highly anticipated sequel, Top Gun: Maverick, originally set for a summer 2019 release, has been delayed for two years to “allow production to work out all the complex flight sequences,” and the COVID-19 pandemic. It is set to be released nationwide this Friday, May 27th.
