Chippendales Are Leaving Rio For The Las Vegas Strip
It’s a good thing they don’t have much clothing to pack. It was just announced that Chippendales are leaving Rio, the off-strip multicolored extravaganza that has been on the come-up lately, and are headed east towards the Las Vegas Strip.
Yes, after a 22 year reign, the Chippendales are leaving Rio for The Linq Hotel + Experience’s Mat Franco Theatre. Their final show on Flamingo Road will be on New Years Eve, with a two week turnaround for their premiere on the Strip on January 14th.
Chippendales Are Leaving Rio, But Returning To Caesars
The move is a bit of a homecoming for the male revue. While Chippendales have been at the Rio since 2001, which was a Harrah’s property (and via a merger, eventually a Caesars property). But when Caesars sold the property in 2019, they lost their connection.
But just like long lost lovers, they have found each other once again. No word as to whether Mat Franco will make their clothing disappear as part of their act moving forward.
The show is known for celebrity cast members like Vinny from Jersey Shore and model Tyson Beckford. They are also in the midst of a move towards unionization.
Could Penn & Teller Follow Suit?
The next curiosity is Penn & Teller. They had a longtime relationship with Caesars as well. The duo, who have also been playing at the Rio since 2001, is half way through a three year contract at their Penn & Teller Theater inside the venue. After it wraps up, their reign will have lasted 25 years at the property.
Could they head back to Caesars? Do they like their new corporate overlords? Who is to say.
What we do know is Chippendales are leaving Rio, and one thing is for sure in Las Vegas: change is constant.
