The 5 Best Spots In Las Vegas To Grab A Margarita

Hey, if you’re a fan of tequila, today is a perfect day for you! In case you didn’t know, Feb. 22 is known as National Margarita Day!

The margarita is an iconic Mexican cocktail. It’s considered a favorite “adult” drink by many people who love its perfect blend of orange liqueur, lime juice and tequila! And now that the weather in Las Vegas has been getting nicer, it can be a refreshing beverage that can make you feel as if you’re being transported to a tropical vacation with just a single sip.

The History Is A Mystery

Now, before we get into a few of my favorite local spots to grab a margarita, let’s dive into its history. Funny enough, the origins are somewhat a mystery. But something most sources agree upon is that the drink was invented, in Mexico, sometime in the 1930s. According to one story from the Wine Enthusiast, they believe the drink was invented by Carlos Herrera. Herrera was the owner of a Mexican restaurant and had a customer who could only stomach tequila. Other hard alcohols didn’t set well with her, but drinking tequila straight was also too harsh. So they believe Herrera came up with the cocktail and then named it after his customer.

Regardless if this story is the true origin of the margarita, the cocktail has become a go-to for bars around the globe. Restaurants too. And with so many different ways to enjoy the drink: on the rocks, blended, with a salted rim or not, there’s no surprise why it’s been able to stand the test of time.

Here’s How To Make Your Own Margarita

Before heading out to one of my favorite local spots to grab a margarita, here’s how you can make one at home. Trust me, as someone named Garcia… it’s incredibly easy! Just mix 2 ounces of your favorite tequila with 1 ounce of orange liqueur. Then, you’ll want to squeeze 1 ounce of fresh lime juice into it. Shake with ice, pour into a glass and enjoy! You can choose whether or not to salt the rim. It’s your preference.

  • Hussong's Mexican Cantina - Boca Park

    I have to give a shout out to some people on my indoor soccer team for introducing me to Hussong’s. I actually live near Boca Park, but I’ve never been here until just recently. And lemme tell you, this place is awesome! I love the atmosphere! I love the food! And the drinks are great. They also have a great happy hour!

    If you go, you have to try the “Bulldog Marg” which is their take on the popular cocktail, but it comes with an upside down Corona inside. It’s delicious!

  • Viva Mercado's

    Viva Mercado’s is a favorite Mexican restaurant of mine for so many reasons. I’ve celebrated birthdays here, it’s a place where my wife and I have gone on many dates to, and it’s even one of the places I was interviewed at for my job, here at The Coyote. All reasons why Viva will always hold a special place in my heart.

    But besides all that, it’s a great place to get Mexican! Located in a shopping mall off Sahara and Fort Apache, don’t let the location fool you. This place is solid!

  • El Segundo Sol

    El Segundo Sol is another favorite Mexican spot of mine, and I’d definitely would go to this restaurant more often if it weren’t on the strip. You know us locals, we try to avoid the strip whenever we can… but its location definitely makes it a great spot to go when you have friends in from out of town! They have seasonal margaritas too. If you like guava or mango, you have to try them! Delicious!

  • Nacho Daddy

    There are multiple Nacho Daddy locations around the valley, but I tend to go to the one on Sahara, because it’s closest to work. It’s one of the more affordable spots on this list to grab a bite and a drink.

    During their happy hour, you can snag their house margarita on the cheap. Or… if you’re feeling adventurous, they even offer a scorpion shot! Yeah, it’s a shot of tequila with a dead scorpion inside.

  • Juan's Flaming Fajitas

    Juan’s wraps up our list of my favorite places to grab a margarita. With a location on the west side of the valley and another in Henderson, Juan’s has you covered for your Mexican needs! Their margaritas are also a great way to cool yourself off after a steaming plate of fajitas comes to your table. Check em out, but be warned… Out of all the places on this list, Juan’s is absolutely the busiest. I usually have to wait for a table, but trust me, Juan’s is worth the wait!
