According to Summerlin.com, Summerlin was named after Howard Hughes paternal grandmother, Amelia Jean Summerlin. The development started in 1988 with the first family moving into the first community called “The Hills” in 1991. Since the launch the area of Summerlin has grown into a staple place many folks want to raise a family in.
The west side of town is booming with new infrastructures going up yearly. Downtown Summerlin, which is an upscale out-door shopping center sits across from The Las Vegas Ballpark and the City National Arena. With the fairly new ballpark and arena, more and more residents are looking to this side of town for things to do. Downtown Summerlin hosts over 125 stores with newly opened restaurants, in-style fashion stores and unique custom shops. Some may say that it’s heart of Summerlin where community comes together. For those that want a hint of casino life without traveling to the strip have the Red Rock Casino and Resort which was built in April of 2006. The casino has and will continue to be a hub for many families. Movies, bowling, concerts, restaurants and so much more happen all in one central location.
