If given the chance, can you name all the famous guitar riffs from the 1980s? A musician recorded himself playing one famous guitar riff from every year . . . starting in 1965, and ending in 2022. However, The Mike & Carla Morning Show wanted to test their “riff” knowledge and focus on the 80s.
So ahead, think of all the great guitar riffs throughout the years and there are a few. Let’s start with the guitar riffs from the 1970s. The Doors, with that opening riff to “Keep Your Hands On The Road”. Iconic and so recognizable right off the bad. To Led Zeppelin’s “Black Dog”, which is so unmistakable Jimmy Page!
Throw in Deep Purple’s “Smoke On The Water” and that opening riff…most fans love the “live” version more so the studio. Pink Floyd, Queen, Ramones, Van Halen of course has to have at least one or two.
Moving forward to the 80s and this is where you come in. Listen to The M&C air the guitar riffs. Listen closely and see how many you can actually guess. Between Carla Rea and Morty, they came in with at least 7 out of 9. One they missed we think because it went by a little too fast. Then of course the last one stumped everyone.
We can tell you that they are all from huge songs from each of the bands. To help you out, one band KKLZ plays a lot of. followed by a 3 man band out of Canada. The “King of Pop” is included as well as another 3 man band. There’s also a riff from a band that gave MTV their signature hook that we all shouted in the 80s.
The next one features a riff from a band out of New Jersey. The last three include riffs from a band that wanted to take us down to “Paradise City” and then wraps up with two bands from the new wave 80’s genre.
