Scrabble Adding More Slang Terms To Dictionary

I used to play Scrabble with my mom, and she was so good at it. It forced me to want to be good at it, too. Now I don't know that I ever became the Scrabble player that my mom was, but I try.
The Expression Heard Most In Scrabble: "That's A Word!"
During the pandemic of 2020, I played a lot of Scrabble. As did most of you, I would imagine. We played "made up words" Scrabble, "dirty words" Scrabble, and of course, regulation Scrabble. But there is always someone who questions a word, right?
'G-o-o-t-m-e-r.' That's a word! Somewhere, that is a word! Ok, how about g-o-o-t? Fine, then I'm putting my tiles back in, and taking new ones (my rule when playing Scrabble). Well now, Scrabble is adding more slang to the game.
Scrabble Adding More Slang Terms To Official Dictionary
There's more than one "official" Scrabble dictionary, and the Merriam-Webster dictionary is what most Americans use. But the one used in other English-speaking countries just added a bunch of new slang terms, like "yeet," "boujee," and "grammable."
The official Scrabble dictionary is adding a bunch of new words (probably not 'gootmer'). Well, one of the "official" dictionaries is. Yes, there is more than one official dictionary.
Most Americans use the Merriam-Webster version. But Collins Dictionary is one that is used by most other English-speaking countries. Some international competitions actually combine them. Wait, what? I can compete? Will it be in the Olympics? Perhaps it will replace Breaking?
Collins Dictionary just announced they're adding 2,000 new words. They include a bunch of Gen Z slang, and they will all be "playable words" they say, starting January 1st, 2025. But you know I'll cheat, and play them NOW.
No word on how many are being added to the Merriam-Webster version, but here are some of the new words Collins Dictionary is adding, to make your Scrabble playing even more fun. Not necessarily new words and terms, they are just official now.
1. Yeet: meaning "to throw," but it is also used to express excitement.
2. Bacne: short for back acne. (eww)
3. Boujee: fancy or luxurious. They also added multiple spellings for it.
4. Floof: slang for any furry animal.
5. Nibling: gender-neutral term for a niece or nephew.
6. Amirite: comedians have used this for years. The one-word slang version of "am I right."
7. Stan: when you obsess over someone who's famous.
8. Anyhoo: slang for "anyhow" or "anyway."
9. Coulda: short for "could have."
10. Grammable: something that is worthy of being posted on Instagram.
There you go.More slang terms, that are now real and "official" words. So you can say, "that's a word" - and it will be. Now, go make Nibling a triple word score!
Nevada’s Most Popular Baby Names For 2024
It's that time of year again. Parents-to-be are planning the baby showers, buying all the diapers, and looking at lists of baby names. And a new list just came out that shows the most popular baby names in Nevada for 2024.
Popular Baby Names Will Be Used A Lot In Nevada This Summer
The Silver State gets a lot of new babies in spring and summer. A recent study by AgeCalculator.com was released that showed the most popular month for conception in Nevada. November came in at number one and October at number two. Bringing us a lot of newborns around the summer months. In fact, according to the study, we'll be looking at about 2,943 new kiddos in July and another 3,055 this August.
Not sure why we like to get down in October and November. Maybe it's because we're excited about hockey season starting and the VGK potentially grabbing another Stanley Cup. Maybe it's because football season is winding down and we've written off the Raiders and need something better to do than watch the games.
Or it could be the holidays putting us in the mood. Halloween, Thanksgiving, Veterans Day. There's a lot to celebrate. I, however, think it's just because October is when the oppressive heat starts to go away and we suddenly don't feel like killing each other anymore. If you don't believe me, the same study by AgeCalculator.com showed that May through July are the months that Nevada residents conceive the least.

Whatever the reason, the babies are coming soon. So let's take a look at the most popular baby names for 2024, specifically for Nevada. According to thebump.com, Liam is of Irish decent and means "strong-willed warrior".
Olivia remains the most popular for girls in Nevada. Famous starlets like actress Olivia Wilde and singer Olivia Rodrigo most definitely contributed to the popularity of this name. Which, according to thebump.com, is nature-inspired and of Latin origin. Meaning "olive tree" but also "peace".
#2: Noah (Boy), Sophia (Girl)

We do see a change this year when it comes to girl names. Sophia, which wasn't on Nevada's top five list last year, is now the second most-popular name for a girl. Coming in at number four for boys in Nevada (and climbing from number five last year) is Sebastian. This name of Greek origin means "revered", according to thebump.com. There aren't a lot of famous, modern people with this name Sebastian. However, considering two very famous musicians, Sebastian Bach (yes, he was born Sebastian) and Johann Sebastian Bach have the name, it's a good choice for parents expecting their little one to have musical talent.
New on Nevada's top five this year for girls is Mia, grabbing the number four spot. Thebump.com says it means "moon", "month", or "beloved". Actress Mia Farrow and soccer star Mia Hamm are the most famous people who have this name.
#5: Oliver (Boy), Isabella (Girl)

Oliver, which was number four on Nevada's list for boys last year, has dropped down to number five. There are not a lot of modern famous people with this name. Unless you count Oliver Twist. The name, according to thebump.com, is the female version of Olivia, also meaning "olive tree". And for our LOTR fans, it also means "elf army". That's fun.
The number five name for girls this year dropped from number three last year. Isabella, according to thebump.com, is of Italian origin and means "pledged", "beautiful" and "devoted to God". Famous people with this name include actress Isabella Rossellini and Isabela Madrigal from Encanto.
