The $1.13 billion, Mega Millions jackpot, the eight largest U.S. lottery history, has been won!

The Winning Ticket

The Mega Millions grew to a whopping $1.13 billion last night. The Mega Millions broke the  winless streak that went back to last December, according to Fox 5 San Diego. No person matched all 6 numbers since December 8th of last year, totally 30 drawings.

The winning numbers drawn were 7, 11, 22, 29, 38 and the gold Mega Ball was 4. The single ticket winner was sold in New Jersey, per the Mega Millions website. The drawing also boasted 13 $1 million dollar winners, matching 5 numbers and not the gold Mega Ball.

The lottery marked the 8th largest in the U.S. lottery history. To win the lottery, you're looking at very large odds. A 1 in 302.6 million odd to be specific, according to Fox 5 San Diego.

What Does The Mega Millions Winner Actually Win?

With the total being $1.13 Billion, the winner of the 8th largest U.S. jackpot would received a total of $537.5 million. That's if they were to take the one lump sum payment. The winner is also given the option to get paid through an annuity. If the annuity option is chosen, the winner would receive an initial payment, then 29 annual payments.

In past, it's shown that most winners decide to take the cash payout.

Didn't Win This Time? There's Another Opportunity

If you were hoping to win Mega Millions but didn't this round, there's still another opportunity for you to win a lottery prize of $865 million. The Powerball has also grown to a high number. Not $1.13 billion high, but still a giant amount. The Powerball hasn't hit yet and could potentially grow higher than the recently won Mega Millions. The last winner of Powerball was on New Years Day. That's 36 drawings without a winner.

Although you can purchase lotto tickets here in Nevada, many flock to nearing states to purchase them. Some Vegas locals drive as far as Baker to purchase tickets and to avoid the lines that grow hours long. Others flock to Arizona to avoid longer lines. Or some have family members buy tickets for them from other states. Mega Millions is available in 45 states as well as Powerball.

11 Places To Buy A Lottery Ticket Near Las Vegas

Over the years, the Powerball Jackpot has broken the record as the largest in United States history. And every time it comes back around, Las Vegas residents are scrambling to find a place to buy a lottery ticket.

Most of us run down to Primm on the border of California, but the lines there get ridiculously long. Sometimes more than and hour, or worse. But since the lottery still isn't legal in Nevada, there aren't a lot of choices for locals who want to play.

Ways To Cash In Your Lottery Ticket After You Win

Of course, many people who do win don't want to wait for payments and instead choose to get paid all at once in a lump sum. Even though it's significantly less money, it's still amounts to a ton for the old bank account.

Still, the chance of someone winning the jackpot in Powerball isn't great. It's hard to do because all six balls (five white balls and the Powerball red) have to be matched up with the ticket.

But players still play because the odds of winning another prize in the lottery is much better than winning the Powerball jackpot. Those odds are about 1 in 24.9. That definitely makes a ticket worth the cost, even when you factor in the gas it takes us to get to it.

Because for Las Vegas residents, it's not as simple as just buying a ticket. Since our jurisdiction in Nevada prevents companies from selling lottery tickets, locals have to travel to cities around Southern Nevada to find one. And most of us flock to Primm because it's the obvious choice.

But what we gain in travel time, we lose in the time we take standing in that line. So, if you're looking to get into a drawing in the near future, maybe consider getting a ticket from one of these nearby cities. They're all less than a 2-hour drive from Las Vegas. And the lines are most likely shorter than the ones at the state line.
