It's become a musical phenomenon and there's one band in the middle of all of it. Yacht rock is back and sails back into Las Vegas as 2023 comes to a close. The one guy who heads it all is Philly Ocean and he spent some time with The Mike & Carla Morning Show.
It's time to set sail with Yacht rock back in Las Vegas!
Philly talked about the beginnings of the band and the resurgence of the genre. Talking about their first gig in costume and pumpin' out the music of Pablo Cruise, Michael McDonald and much more!
He admits, it took the audience a few songs to "get it", but after that it was smooth sailing! Philly even talked about some of the covers they do and how original artists have showed up to shows to sing a song or two. It's been quite the career for this band of musicians that have taken a style of music that most think died in the late 70s and resurrected!
To show the popularity of this music, the band recently signed on with Jimmy Buffett's label, Mailboat Records, and have put out a 5 song EP. The EP also includes an original track by the band called "Sex on the Beach"!
It's been quite the journey for all five musicians in the band. All of which had thoughts of being in a real ROCK band. But according to Philly, no one is complaining on how things turned out. Performing in from of thousands of fans at each gig. Everything has turned out fine!
Philly Ocean also says that the band is excited about coming back to Las Vegas starting in October for weekends at a time at The Palms. So, put on your captain's hat, sit back and enjoy the visit The M&C Morning Show had with Yachtley Crew!
