Las Vegas Neon Museum Celebrates 10th Birthday
It is an attraction that is uniquely Las Vegas, and it preserves the city’s history with each neon sign. The Neon Museum is celebrating a milestone 10th birthday!
Since they opened in 2012, more than one million people have come through the doors – including myself on several occasions – to get a glimpse back at the Las Vegas eras gone by, and the iconic signs that lined Fremont Street, the Strip and far beyond.
The Neon Museum opened to the public 10 years ago, on October 27th, and since then it has grown in neon, and in history.
The Neon Museum’s collection of historic signs sits on two and a quarter acres, and at night it gives off that trademark neon glow Las Vegas is known for.
Walking through the Neon Boneyard, where so many signs now call home, is literally a walk through the history of Las Vegas.
My fathers group, The Gaylords/Gaylord and Holiday, worked Las Vegas for years. I remember that neon glow as a child! The Stardust, The Riviera, La Concha – which is now the Neon Museum visitors center and gift shop. (Yep – they moved the structure to the site of the boneyard!)
As a child my eyes would light up as we drove, or flew into this magical city- and even now each time I visit the Neon Museum, I am reminded of such a wonderful time.
History has been brought to light – and life – at the Neon Museum and preserved for everyone to enjoy, hopefully well into the future.
The museum’s 10-year celebration includes a weekend of special events and tours both at the museum and through the city. Friday night, the museum offered a special tour through the Jungle Palace, the former estate of Siegfried and Roy. They are also offering a special tour of the architecture of Las Vegas.
For locals and our out of town visitors, The Neon Museum is a MUST SEE!
Enjoy some of the pictures I’ve taken on my Neon Museum visits.
