The United States Postal Service has announced that they will be raising the price of a first class postage stamp from 60-cents to 63-cents beginning January 22, 2023. It seems like we get similar announcements from the USPS about every two to three years or so. Can you really blame them? I mean, just 63-cents to take an envelope from here in Las Vegas to somewhere on the East Coast of the United States? That's not a bad deal these days.
The problem for the U.S. Postal Service seems to be that all they're really used for nowadays is junk mail like coupon books, political mailers, direct sales mail pieces, charitable organization letters, and weekly sales ad newspapers. With the advent of technology, we can now communicate with each other instantly by text or email, so why take the time and effort to mail a letter which takes three to five days to be delivered to the recipient? It has become an outmoded method of communication. So, no one really gets too bent out of shape when these announcements come our way.
I love comedy. I really admire the talent of great stand-up comics. I think what they do is incredible. On the radio, I do what I do in a closed-door studio. I never see the audience. Stand-up comedians have to make people laugh while they are looking them right in the eye. It’s do or die. It takes guts, and great comedic chops.
So, I thought I would share some great stand-up comedy with you every Monday. Why? Because it’s Monday! Everyone could use a good laugh on Monday. So, here we go with our next installment.
Legendary comedian Jerry Seinfeld performed this bit about the USPS on The Tonight Show With Jimmy Fallon back in 2014 when they had just announced a price hike to 49-cents for a first class postage stamp. Enjoy!
