Major Court Victory for ‘1 October’ Victims’ Families
For families that have been affected by the “1 October” mass shootings of five years ago, a District Court Judge’s ruling to destroy almost all of the shooter’s weapons has become a source of relief and is being viewed as a major victory.
According to an article by the Staff on KTNV.com, District Court Judge Gloria Sturman ordered the forfeiture of all guns and weapons in the shooter’s estate. Almost all of them will be destroyed by the FBI. There will be a certain undisclosed amount of the weapons that will be retained for law enforcement purposes only, but they will never be sold or transferred.
Per the article on the Channel 13 Action News website, the court’s ruling “removes a long-standing roadblock” for the families affected by the “Route 91 Harvest Festival” tragedy on October 1, 2017. “It paves the way for distribution of funds from the shooter’s estate.”
The article on KTNV.com goes on to explain that the gunman’s estate is valued at approximately $1.2 million dollars. The “money will be divided between the families of the 60 victims who lost their lives.”
Alice Denton, attorney for the special administrator for the gunman’s estate, was quoted in the KTNV.com article that she was informed by the FBI that the guns at the crime scene at Mandalay Bay “will be destroyed very quickly. As to the other locations, we are expecting destruction within 2 to 4 weeks, hopefully sooner.”
