Born And Raised: Port of Subs Celebrates 50 Years In Nevada
What would we do without our emotional-support Port of Subs sandwich?
At times when life feels crazy, our favorite sub shop always comforts us, and this year they’re celebrating the 50th anniversary!
From being a single sub shop in Sparks, Nevada to becoming THE neighbor sub shop across the West, Port of Subs still slices and serves every sandwich with the freshest ingredients.
The story of Port of Subs started in 1972 when two brothers from New Jersey opened a quaint sandwich shop in Sparks, which was originally called the “Sub Shop.” However in 1975, John Larsen and his family bought the company and held a community-wide contest to choose a different name. There were more than 10,000 entries. And after reviewing the plethora of name suggestions, the new owners decided on “Port of Subs.”
Between 1975 and 1985, the family owned ten company units when they noticed something. Many people were asking for stores to open in different cities, and that’s when the Larsens developed franchise opportunities in 1985! Now the beloved sandwich shop is a major contender in the food industry and has been a cornerstone in many of our best memories.
The city of Sparks was truly the incubator for some of the best sandwiches we’ve ever had!
Port of Subs is the pinnacle creation when it comes to the art of sandwich making. There’s truly nothing better than watching a Port of Subs artist hand craft your delectable sub, wedging together the most vibrant vegetables, top-quality meats and fresh-baked fluffy bread. We can’t forget the hot subs, specialty subs and refreshing wraps that also hits the spot.
And the perfect ending to a Port of Subs sandwich? The fresh baked desserts and amazing cookies that we can never deny eating.
The story of Port of Subs is truly one that reflects how a small-town store can transform into a national, legacy brand. We’re proud to be the birthplace of this amazing and locally focused sub shop!
