Harry How / StaffBack in 2014, Bryan Adams tried to contact Universal Music Group for master recordings of his work. He was putting together his 30th anniversary Reckless album and needed masters of the singles. At the time, all he got was the run around. There were no masters available, but Adams was never told why.
Earlier this month Adams, along with the rest of us, got that answer. It was reported that the 2008 fire at Universal Studios destroyed many master recordings of music. Adams's work was in that collection.
Fortunately, Adams kept copies in his own vault at home, so he was still able to release his anniversary album, but the sting is still there for losing his originals.
