Christina Applegate arrived at the 29th annual Screen Actors Guild Awards Feb. 26 with her daughter, 12-year-old Sadie, by her side – and an eye-catching statement on her cane.

Applegate, who was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis (MS) in 2021, looked amazing in a long velvet tuxedo style gown, but her cane—which read “FU MS,” along with both her and her daughter’s names, and decorative hearts—is what many focused on.

Applegate also accessorized with this bold statement while receiving her star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in November – her first public appearance since her MS diagnosis.

While speaking with the Los Angeles Times recently, Applegate shared why the SAG Awards ceremony was extra significant, saying, “It’s my last awards show as an actor probably, so it’s kind of a big deal.” She went on, “Right now, I couldn’t imagine getting up at 5 a.m. and spending 12 to 14 hours on a set; I don’t have that in me at this moment.”

Applegate said of the SAG Awards, “When you go to that particular event, it’s all your people — you don’t have anybody but the actors there. And despite the reputation actors have, everyone is really lovely.”

Applegate was nominated for Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Comedy Series for playing Jen Harding in the Netflix comedy series Dead To Me. Jean Smart took home the award for Hacks this year, but Dead to Me will be eligible again next year.

51-year-old Applegate was diagnosed with MS while filming the third and final season of Dead To Me and while Netflix offered to stop the show after her diagnosis, Applegate was determined to finish the job.

She told Netflix, “We have to finish this story. It’s too important to our hearts; too important to our souls. And we have to give this gift, not only to ourselves—there are people that love these characters, and we’ve got to let them have their closure too.”

Applegate did that, and completed the story and what could be her final on-screen role in Dead To Me, despite her health struggles.

We wish Christina Applegate well, and hope this is indeed NOT the last we see of her!
