James ‘JY’ Young Talks About One Of The Most Hated Styx Songs
Listen to what James “JY” Young had to say after he found out that one of the most hated song was in fact a song from Styx!
The Mike & Carla Morning Show had the chance to talk to “JY” a couple of weeks ago prior to coming to Las Vegas. They are currently performing at The Venetian Theater all week.
Carla Rea had mentioned to him that according to Ultimate Classic Rock Magazine, it was noted that the song “Mr. Roboto” was one of the most hated songs in rock! Now, we all know that the word hate is a strong word and we discourage the use of it.

However, upon finding out, Young decided to tell The M&C Morning Show as to why he wasn’t surprised. In fact, the band had all but dropped it from performing it live.
The only one in the band who had any feeling for the song was Dennis DeYoung. But after dropping out of the group, the other members finally gave a huge “phewwww” and quickly dropped the song from any future set lists.
But over the years, the remaining members of the band had second thoughts about the song. In fact, it was the feedback from that fans that put the song back in!
Young talked about how they had a couple of people that worked the lights and handled all the merch for the group. While out there in the crowd, talking to the fans, it was said that most were disappointed that Styx no longer performed the song.
Can you imagine, someone from the Styx circle sort of undercover asking fans what songs they liked or disliked. Well, when the band found out how concert goers felt about the song, JY said that they thought, all right, what the heck…let’s put it back in!
And the rest as they say is history…but if you are a Styx fan, you’re going to want to listen to the segment from this morning. Enjoy!
