David Schwimmer Once Served Rod Stewart Divorce Papers
Back in 1984, when David Schwimmer was just 18, he tracked down rock star Rod Stewart. His job? Delivering divorce papers while working at his mom’s law office.
The actor, who later became famous on Friends, shared this story during an appearance on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert and recalled a summer job he had after his first year of college. Schwimmer’s mother, Arlene Coleman-Schwimmer, was well-known for handling celebrity divorces in Hollywood.
Those papers started the divorce between the singer and his first wife, Alana, who got married in 1979 but called it quits by 1984.
” … Thank goodness I’ve never run into him since, but I served Rod Stewart. I don’t even know if he knows. I don’t think he knows,” said Schwimmer. Colbert replied, “You could theoretically run into Rod Stewart sometime! Now he knows to punch you!”
Stewart would marry two more times. After Alana, he wed model Rachel Hunter in 1990. Stewart and Hunter separated in 1999 and divorced in 2006. Stewart and his third wife, model and UK television personality Penny Lancaster, married in 2007 and have been together ever since.
In other Stewart news: The iconic singer announced in November 2024 that he’s hitting the road in 2025 on a tour he dubbed “One Last Time.” While many assumed this would be a farewell tour, Stewart clarified that this was just the end of “large-scale world tours” for him and that he had “no desire to retire.”
