Larry Martino Retires After 17 Years On 96.3 KKLZ
The airwaves will sound a little different today on 96.3 KKLZ. After nearly 40 years of being a professional broadcaster, Larry Martino has retired.
We want to thank Larry for his dedication and hard work throughout the years. He had taught us so much and had made 96.3 KKLZ a special station. We’re proud to have worked and learned from Larry. This is not goodbye but a “see you later!”
Larry Martino Wore Many Hats In The 96.3 KKLZ Studio
Martino started his broadcast career in the ’80s. In 2007, he accepted the position of being the afternoon drive personality on 96.3 KKLZ. Over the years, he wore many hats—music director, assistant program director, and a versatile on-air talent who seamlessly handled various programming roles within the station.
Along with being a stellar radio personality, Larry was a great writer. He wrote constant articles about local Las Vegas happenings, important news and current events. He gave us a little slice of life throughout his on-air shifts.
Larry also loved to play hockey and was inducted into the Nevada Broadcaster Hall of Fame. Larry was a staple in our Vegas broadcast community. He programmed our station with such detail — and he always dotted the i’s and crossed the t’s.
We’ll miss Martino’s Mystery Melodies, and we’ll miss his kind and warm voice. Larry was truly an artist when it came to live broadcasting.
Program director and morning show host Mike O’Brian said, “After spending 17-18 years programming with Larry Martino, you find out he is an incredible talent, has an amazing work ethic and is a true radio pro who made KKLZ that much better!”
Larry said he’ll miss the listeners the most. From text messages he had received, phone calls and great memories, he’ll always cherish the KKLZ listeners. Thank you Larry for the great moments. Farewell, our friend!
