Cher Confirms She’ll Attend Rock Hall Ceremony
Cher has apparently changed her mind and will be attending the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame induction ceremony in October.
The pop icon told ET she would attend the ceremony and noted, “I’m going to have some words to say. I’m going to accept it as me.”
In December 2023 before she was nominated for the 2024 induction class, Cher talked about famously being snubbed by the Rock Hall during an appearance on The Kelly Clarkson Show. Clarkson mentions how Cher has had a No. 1 song in each of the past seven decades. While Clarkson marveled at that feat, Cher tells her that the Rolling Stones have also accomplished the same. However, the pop icon mentions that the Stones are in the Rock Hall, but she isn’t.
The studio audience and Clarkson were aghast at that, but Cher took everything in stride. She said, “I wouldn’t be in it now if they gave me a million dollars … They can just go you-know-what-themselves.”
Cher is part of a diverse slate of artists being inducted in the Performer Category as part of the Rock Hall's 2024 class. Along with Cher, other artists being inducted include Mary J. Blige, Dave Matthews Band, Foreigner, Peter Frampton, Kool & The Gang, Ozzy Osbourne and A Tribe Called Quest.
When is the Rock Hall 2024 Induction Ceremony?
The 2024 Rock & Roll Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony will take place on Saturday, October 19 at the Rocket Mortgage Fieldhouse in Cleveland, Ohio. As previously reported, the 2024 ceremony will live stream on Disney+. An edited special will air on ABC at a later date, which will be available on Hulu the next day.
John Sykes, chairman of the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame Foundation, said in a statement, “Rock & Roll is an ever-evolving amalgam of sounds that impacts culture and moves generations. This diverse group of inductees each broke down musical barriers and influenced countless artists that followed in their footsteps.”
For the first time this year, the Rock Hall induction class was announced on American Idol. Host Ryan Seacrest and judge/2022 Rock Hall inductee Lionel Richie did the honors.
The Rock Hall noted in a press release, “Four out of the eight inductees in the Performer category were on the ballot for the first time, including Cher, Foreigner, Kool & the Gang and Peter Frampton.” However, it should also be noted that Ozzy Osbourne was on the ballot for the first time as a solo artist, despite being eligible since 2005.
