TSA Says To Check Your Halloween Costume Props
Halloween is here! We all have our costumes that we can’t wait to share with everyone. Some of us will be traveling to another location to celebrate. If you are traveling and plan to take your Halloween costume with you, the TSA has some rules for you.
“I’m Sorry, You’re Gonna Have To Check That!”
Just because it’s Halloween and it’s part of your costume, it doesn’t allow you to break TSA rules and protocols. During Halloween, if you’re traveling, TSA reminds all travelers that they need to check in any prohibited items even if they’re fake, according to their website.
Remember, the same rules apply. Liquids, creams, lotions, and gels are allowed if it’s 3.4 ounces or less. They say it also includes Halloween items like makeup and even fake blood. And if it is under 3.4 ounces, it needs to fit in a quart-sized bag.
TSA says that it’s not just limited to liquids and makeup. They are also saying costume props need to be checked as well. That includes weapons like knives (whether they’re real or fake), light sabers, brooms, hatchets, and more. They also need to be checked. If not, they’ll be confiscated. Also the obvious was brought up by TSA. If anything looks or is shaped like a bomb or grenade, it should just be left home. Don’t even attempt to bring it to the airport.
According to an interview with The Mirror, a TSA agent said, “Our TSA officers enjoy the creativity of a good Halloween costume as much as anyone, but please keep in mind that some costumes may trigger an alarm at the checkpoint body scanner.”
They suggest travelers to wait until they’ve cleared security check to change into your costume. They also suggest to avoid putting on makeup that will cover your normal appearance for obvious reasons. This will help keep the security check lines moving quicker and avoid any unnecessary delays.
