Not many knew, but if you said the phrase "Taco Tuesday" you were breaking the law! But after a short court battle, it okay say it! People used the phrase so much that you wouldn't even know. It's owned and trademarked by the chain Taco Johns! They've had the trademark on if for 34 years! Well that since changed. The Mike & Carla Morning Show wanted you to be the first to know!

What Does This Mean For Other Restaurants?

For years, restaurants and huge chains such as Taco Bell couldn't use it because it was owned by Taco Johns! Taco Tuesday is said so much, that it alone would drive business to anyone who did a special for it. But now they're gonna be able to use it whenever they want and however they want because Taco Johns has decided to drop it.

Why Did They Drop The Trademark?

Taco Johns has fought many lawsuits for the past 34 years. So much so that they're tired of spending millions on the lawsuits. Taco Bell actually was the cause for most of those lawsuits. In fact Taco Bell had filed a petition back in May, requesting the US Patent and Trademark office drop the trademark because they feel it "Should be freely available to all who make, sell, eat and celebrates tacos." And to some extent, they're right.

Taco John's CEO, Jim Creel told CNN, "We've always prided ourselves on being the home of Taco Tuesday, but paying millions of dollars to lawyers to defend our mark just doesn't feel like the right thing to do."

To celebrate the trademark being dropped, Creel says Taco Johns will donate $40,000 to Children of Restaurant Employees... or known as CORE. That's $100 from their 400 locations.

What Is CORE?

Core is a nonprofit organization that Taco Johns has supported for years. The organization helps restaurant workers who have children. The organization provides funds to help the employees when either they, their spouse, or children face any type of health, death, or injury.

We have more on this in today's edition of a "Few Things You Should Know!"

Not all but many of the restaurants stay open late catering for those night time hunger cravings. Check local listing times for any updates or changes.
