It's all fun and games until it isn't...especially when it comes to BINGO! It's "National Bingo Day" today and serious business in Las Vegas. People who play on a regular basis take it very seriously. It's one of the things The Mike & Carla Morning Show found out this morning when talking about the game!

Keep in mind, according to bingo historians, the game itself is almost 490 years old. The height of bingo was considered after World War II. The origin of the game might be disputed, but most will tell you that it all started in Italy as far back as 1530. Not until 1929 did the game actually start up in the U.S. at a carnival in Georgia. Edwin S. Lowe, a game manufacturer from Long Island, was the first to play.

All right, here we go, B-49, B-49..."BINGO!"

Since those that were playing used beans to cover the numbers, it was known as "Beano". That all changed when some friends of Lowe were playing and one person was so excited to win they yelled "BINGO"...and the rest is history!

In Las Vegas, the game has taken on new meaning and making a ton of money for local casinos. Believe it or not, there are over 42 bingo halls in the state of Nevada. The game generates $42.2 million in revenue. The game has gotten so big, some casinos specialize the game into promotional nights each week.

And we come to find out that it appeals to those of all ages. It's not just little old ladies playing any more. From young adults to couples, young and old, it seems to draw an incredible crowd no matter where the game is being played.

For example, Station Casinos offer a "Rock Shot Bingo" game where it's a $25 buy in, you get 30 cards and a chance to win BIG money! Oh, and we heard that if someone wins at your table? FREE shots for everyone at your table!

Like we said in the beginning, it's all fun and games until it's not. Celebrate "National Bingo Day" by listening to the segment from this morning...and enjoy!
