Las Vegas; Eastside vs. Westside
After living here for almost 40 years, over time I noticed there was a great divide in our city. Las Vegas, eastside versus westside! And when I mention “divide”, I mean those that live on the east love it. Those that live on the west love it just as well. And the dividing line just happens to be the famous Las Vegas Strip!
However, it’s very rare that one would move from one side to the other. You get rooted, you’re planted, you seem to be more comfortable. It’s seems to be very difficult for those that have lived on either side of town to just pack up and move to the other side. If for nothing else, we just get used to what we know.
For example, I have friends that have lived west of Las Vegas Boulevard forever and the very mention of moving to the other side of town is unheard of. And those on the east would tell you the something.
Both would tell you that the traffic for one, is the reason they stay where they are. Those on the east would say there too much traffic, congestion and hard to get around.
And those on the west would tell you that they just aren’t that familiar enough. Each side of town has it’s good points and downsides. On the west, you have the mountains, Summerlin, the restaurants and it seems easier to get to places on the strip.
For those on the eastside, “…we love being away from all the action of the strip and once were home, we’re home!” It’s interesting the different perspectives you get from both sides on the different sides of town.
I heard one person who moved from one side of town to the other, “…I didn’t realize it got this windy on this side of town!”
For The Mike & Carla Morning Show, got to be honest, we are westside type people. The radio station is on this side of town, we all live on this side of town, but it wasn’t always like that. A
t one time 96.3 KKLZ was located at Tropicana and Maryland Parkway…which is about as east as many of us would go!
To each their own I guess…me personally, I’m a westside guy. Tried to live on the other side of town and it just wasn’t me…maybe somewhere down the road!
