New ‘Punk Rock’ Museum Opening In Las Vegas
Never mind the bollocks! The first comprehensive Punk Rock Museum is opening in Las Vegas.
Fat Mike from NOFX says it’ll be very inclusive: “If you’re a punk band, you’re [effing] in. It’s that simple” (his quote, not mine). Fat Mike spearheaded the creation of the first comprehensive Punk Rock Museum, and announced this week that it’s opening in Las Vegas. The Mike & Carla Morning Show brought this up this morning knowing how Las Vegas LOVES music!
Punk rock slam danced its way into music, fashion, film, and popular culture. When this museum opens its doors in Las Vegas, and proudly shoves in your face the history, culture, and absurdity of rock n’ roll’s bastard step-child. This museum invites lifelong fans and the curious s of all ages to experience a hands-on, uniquely punk rock experience.
Rooted in 1960s garage rock, punk bands rejected the perceived excesses of mainstream 1970s rock. They produced short, fast-paced songs with hard-edged melodies and singing styles, stripped-down instrumentation, often shouting political, anti-establishment lyrics.
The Punk Rock Museum houses the world’s most expansive, inclusive, and intimate display of artifacts, fliers, photos, clothing, instruments, handwritten lyrics, artwork, and just about everything else donated by the people and bands who were there. Here’s a small taste of what the museum will have on display.
Not only can you see amazing artifacts, there’s a guitar room where you can play the actual guitars and basses played through the amps the artists played them through. We have guitars and amps from Rise Against, NOFX, Pennywise, Sick of it All, Strung Out, and many more. Yes – you can actually PLAY THEM. A lot of people ask, what happens if something is broken? The simple answer, we fix it – just like we did on tour.
The museum’s collection so far includes Devo’s “energy dome” (dog bowl) helmets, an old Vultures t-shirt that belonged to Debbie Harry, Sum-41’s bright green chainsaw from the “Does This Look Infected” tour, and the acoustic guitar Rise Against used to write their first songs.
Rock and roll, you pukes!!! The Punk Rock Museum opens January 13th, 2023.
