What were those "sayings" your parents would tell you that you found out weren't true?  For example, if you swallowed your gum, it would stay in your stomach for seven years.  Or, if you sat too close to the TV, you'd go blind. That's what The Mike & Carla Morning Show talked about this morning and there were a few of them!

Whether they were true or not, Huff Post published a recent article that brought back a lot of childhood memories for listeners this mornings. Even Mike O'Brian was told that if you don't eat the crust off the bread, you won't be able to whistle. Carla Rea had one a bit more drastic, seating too close to the tv and you could go blind! But if you think about it, what were those "sayings" that you remember growing up that in fact passed along to your kids or grandkids. Five that come to mind right off the bat...

1.  That it was illegal to have the dome light on in your car while driving.  Although it's not true...

2.  If you went swimming right after you ate, you'd cramp up and drown.

3.  That quicksand was a major cause of death for lots of people.

4.  That if anything bad hit your "permanent record," your life was ruined.

5.  If you took a shower during a thunderstorm, you'd probably get struck by lightning and die.  That one's rare, but it's actually does happen!

Listeners blew up the phone and text lines with the lines that they were told growing up...for example, if you touch a frog you'll end up getting warts! What? How many kids would have no problem picking up a frog just for kicks never knowing there was a chance of warts!!

There are so many more, so if you'd like to hear others, just sit back and enjoy the segment from this morning!
