Let's face it: Some would say that Las Vegas drivers are simply horrendous. But, what about our calmer counter parts in Elko, Mesquite, or Sparks? In fact, where does Nevada rank as a whole when it comes to distracted driving?

We've seen it before. On the side of the road, a tangle of cars after crashing. Or, maybe you've seen someone texting and driving, which is usually accompanied by a swerving car. However, it seems that Las Vegas is actually an outlier. This might blow you away, but the Silver State is not even in the top 10! We know...hard to believe, but Nevadans actually pay attention when driving. Of course The Mike & Carla Morning Show found this really interesting!

According to a recent article put out by WhistleOUT, it seems that there are a few more states that are more distracted when driving. First off, let's try to explain what a "distracted" driver is. The article points out those people that talk on their phone while at the wheel. It also talked about people who try to enjoy their breakfast, lunch or dinner while driving or messing around with the radio during their commute. (Of course, if you already had KKLZ preset on your radio, you wouldn't have to worry about that!)

Nevada Drivers Are Paying Attention!

The bottom line: distracted driving is anything that takes your attention away from concentrating on the road. According to the stats in the article, those between the ages of 25-34 are the most distracted while in the car. However, there are three states that are opposite on the spectrum in terms of the average age of distracted drivers. In three states, drivers who are 45-54 are the most distracted at driving.

Another odd fact that came out in this study is that the month of February has the fewest amounts of accidents. This is weird only because it's one of the coldest months and the weather isn't favorable for drivers in the majority of the country.

Living in Las Vegas allows us to not worry about the weather in February, especially when it comes to driving. Oh, it gets a little chilly, and we might experience some rain, heavy winds and seldom snow. But for the most part that's the beauty of living here . . . the weather!

So, when it comes down to the top five states with the most distracted drivers, scroll down to see which states made the list. And for the record, Nevada comes in at #48!

The Top 5 States With Distracted Drivers

#5 MONTANA

According to the states reported by WhistleOUT, it's the younger drivers in the state of Montana causing all the problems. Those between the ages of 16-20...so c'mon kids, pay attention! The big reason why Montana is #5 is due to a bunch of kids being on their phones (we're kidding).

#4 KENTUCKY

Kentucky is one of three states where the middle-aged drivers are to blame! Those driving between the ages of 45-54 are NOT paying attention. Putting the Bluegrass State at #4 on the list! According to the report, those who are 45-54 are the culprits of many accidents.

#3 KANSAS

The state might be a bit flat, so you don't have to worry about going through mountains and a lot of curvy roads. But, for some reason, the people in Kansas see the need to keep themselves occupied with other things while driving. Enough so that the they end up at #3 on the list!

#2 LOUISIANA

Clearly there is not enough going on in this state for people to pay attention when driving. A little surprised, but not really...the Cajun state of Louisiana comes in at #2 on the list. If you ever do visit, keep your eyes on the road and your head on a swivel! It looks like there are some distractions down by the bayou.

#1 NEW MEXICO

Not sure what the heck is going on, but New Mexico seems to be the granddaddy state of distracted drivers! and it seems men between the ages of 25-44 are to blame. And a lot of women in that state sighing a breath of relief. New Mexico, #1 when it comes to the most distract drivers in the country! There ya go!
