Happy National Cheesecake Day!
This tasty treat has its origins in Ancient Greece, according to DaysOfTheYear.com. Nowadays, different regions of the world use different types of cheese to make a cheesecake. For example, in Italy, they use ricotta. In Germany and Poland they use a native cheese called "quark." Of course, here in the U.S.A., our bakers normally use cream cheese. Per Wikipedia, this American-made cheese was first created in Chester, New York by dairyman William A. Lawrence in 1873. By 1880, it was being sold as "Philadelphia Cream Cheese."
New York City is not the original home of cheesecake, but many New Yorkers would claim its the only place to get "the good stuff," from restaurants like Veniero's Paticceria & Cafe in the East Village of Manhattan, La Cheesecake Bake Shop in Queens, and Junior's Restaurant in Brooklyn. This "New York Style" cheesecake is made with cream cheese and sour cream, and it is usually served without toppings.
Of course, you can enjoy your cheesecake any way you'd like it. There are even recipes which require no baking which do not use eggs, but rather use the refrigerator "to get the cream cheese, whipping cream, or other ingredients set up into a dessert," according to DaysOfTheYear.com.
So whether you like your cheesecake plain, or topped with strawberries, chocolate sauce, caramel sauce, whipped cream, nuts, or any other delicious treat, be sure to treat yourself and your family to some cheesecake to celebrate "National Cheesecake Day!"

After Blue Bell Ice Cream was unfairly snatched from the Las Vegas area, the beloved dessert is back in the valley, and we're rightfully celebrating.
It seems that our city was given only a tiny taste of the delectable ice cream. Blue Bell Creameries entered the Las Vegas market in 2014 and left in 2015 after a product recall, which created a forever-unfulfilled craving — until now.
The nearly seven-year wait is over because local stores were given the green light to stock Blue Bell Ice Cream starting on March 28.
“We are excited to bring our ice cream to the Las Vegas area,” said Las Vegas Branch Manager Randy Murley in a press release. “We have been here for the past few months preparing for the opening, and everyone has been so welcoming.”
The Texas-based ice cream brand ignites memories of childhood and good times. The cult following behind this brand makes the experience of trying the rich ice cream even more special. From their "exclusive" availability to their freshly "home-made" approach, this ice cream is more than a brand but part of many people's fondest recollections.
Currently, Blue Bell is available in only 23 states with Nevada being the most recent re-launch. To celebrate Blue Bell coming back to Vegas -- and finally satisfying this ice cream hankering -- we threw a big party.
Our very own DJ Thump from "Thump In The Morning" teamed up with Carla Rea from 96.3 KKLZ's "The Mike & Carla Morning Show" to have a "most-loved flavors" blind taste test. You definitely don't want to miss their initial reactions of experiencing Blue Bell.
Have YOU been yearning to try the iconic Blue Bell Ice Cream? The company will be out and about in Sin City with several sampling events throughout April.
