A lot of people got up this morning and decided it would be the best morning to celebrate "National Waffle Day" today!  For those that might not know, this special day takes place every August 24th, because it was on that day in 1869 that Cornelius Swartwout, of Troy, New York, was given a patent for the waffle iron! Of course when you think waffles, the one brand that comes to mind is the famous Waffle House brand.

Keep in mind that we are talking about the internationally famous Waffle House, that has become synonymous with waffles not only in name, but one of the most recognizable brands when it comes to the breakfast! As we always like to do, we wanted to know a little more about the origins of The Waffle House, so we ran across an article posted in the Atlanta from a couple of years ago with some amazing facts.

To give you an idea of how big waffles are in the southeast, every minute, Waffle Houses serve an average of 145 waffles, 341 bacon strips, 238 orders of hash browns, and 127 cups of coffee. Of course when the Waffle House first opened, it wasn't all about breakfast, you could actually feast on a nice filet mignon add in a salad, a nice toasted bun, and a side of hash browns for just $1.50.

Believe it or not, there is not a Waffle House in Las Vegas, nor anywhere else in the state of Nevada. Truth be told, there are 30 other states and territories that don't have a Waffle House, which boggles the mind, especially if you favor a great waffle. On the other hand, if it's the Waffle House you seek, your best bet is to head to the southeast part of the country. Georgia is the state where you'll find the most Waffle Houses to the tune of more than 430 statewide. Following in second is North Carolina with 169 and still counting!

This morning, The Mike & Carla  Morning Show  talked quite a bit about this special day and despite the fact that there isn't a Waffle House in Las Vegas, there are a few good places to celebrate... but first, listen to the segment from this morning...

Then scroll down to see the Top 5 places to down a nice stack of waffles and enjoy!
