2 Missing Lake Mead Boaters Found Dead
A very sad development in the case of 2 missing Lake Mead boaters that have been missing since Monday. Today, the pair were found dead by the National Park Service.
Officials at the Lake Mead National Recreation Area offered their deepest condolences in a statement on Friday.
Missing Lake Mead Boaters Went For A Swim
On Thursday, June 28th, the National Park Service announced they were on the search for 2 missing Lake Mead boaters. The search was on to find them, however little was offered up in the form of details. Any distinguishing characteristics that the public might want to look out for, which is not a great sign.
All that was known was the pair went for a swim while out on a boat with buddies, and then they went missing. That’s it. All we knew. Considering that happened on Monday and we didn’t learn about it until Thursday was a sobering sign.
Friday, they were found by searchers with a terrible ending. Their identities will eventually be released to the public.
Lake Mead Is America’s Most Notoriously Deadly National Park
The 2 missing Lake Mead boaters found dead are just the most recent of many deadly incidents at Lake Mead National Recreation Area.
Research from Connecticut Trial Firm found that Lake Mead ranked as the most deadly national park in the nation over a 10 year period from 2013-2023. Over that period of time, 56 people drowned at Lake Mead.
Sadly, the vast majority of deaths in the area are not drownings but instead due to suicides at the Hoover Dam and the Mike O’Callaghan Pat Tillman Memorial Bridge. While the dam and bridge are not technically part of the Lake Mead National Recreation Area, deaths recorded there count against it. The numbers are sobering. 203 people took their lives at the Dam over that same 10 year period.
In total, Lake Mead was responsible for nearly 7 percent of the total amount of deaths at America’s national parks.
