National Pasta Day Means Saucy And Shapely Favorites
It’s National Pasta Day. Come and spaghet it!
Do you know how many pasta shapes and sizes there are? According to Italy Magazine, there are about 350 different shapes and sizes of pasta!
Americans Love Their Pasta
A poll found that 75% of us eat it at least once a week, including 5% who said they eat it every day.
A few national chains have pasta deals. Nothing too crazy, but Today.com did a national round-up if you’d like to check it out. They went with an excellent headline: “Eight Pasta Day Deals to Save a PENNE or Two.”
What’s Your Favorite Shape
What’s your favorite pasta shape? According to YouGov, Spaghetti is number one with 33% of the vote. If you’d rather not twirl and would rather stab, Penne is number two with 12% of the vote. Then macaroni with 11% and the beautiful tortellini at 7%.
Macaroni and cheese is so popular. What is the best shape for mac-and-cheese? Good old fashioned macaroni got the most votes. Probably because that is what has always been in the boxed variety. But 12% prefer shells. They trap the cheese in those little shell boats, and it’s yummy. Others like corkscrews, or bowtie ranked at about 7% and 6%. 5% use penne.
More Saucy Facts
Lets talk about sauce, baby! Alfredo, pesto, or spaghetti sauce — what’s the favorite sauce? The overall favorite for 52% is spaghetti sauce. 44% love the cheesy alfredo sauce. Just 4% said pesto is their favorite — they obviously have not tried my mom’s.
Here’s a fun sauce: A little pesto sauce mixed in your alfredo sauce. Excellent!
Gourmet Gardens says that most Americans say they always have at least one box or bag of pasta in the house. Being Italian, it was mandatory to have pasta on hand at all times. Of course the best pasta was my grandma’s homemade.
Are you a fork and spoon twirler? I, personally, have never twirled pasta into a spoon. Just on the plate or bowl. Trust me folks- – it’s not that hard. And for the love of all things Italian: DO NOT break your spaghetti in half! You know you do it. Now, Stop.
Sauce or gravy? That’s a conversation for another day. This and other stories this morning in M&C’s segment of “A Few Things We Think You Should Know!”
