New Snake Species Found And Named After Harrison Ford
If you’re a fan of Harrison Ford or the “Indiana Jones” movies then you know he’s not a big fan of snakes.
In the movies, he even has lines like, “Snakes. why’d it have to be snakes?” in the 1981 film “Indiana Jones and the Raiders of the Lost Ark.”
In Peru, a new species of snake was discovered. Right! Are thinking the same thing I am? Why do we need more snakes in this world. Well to pay homage to the actor for his role in one of the most iconic movie series ever, they named the new species after him. By him, I’m talking about Harrison Ford. Sadly not after the character he played.
Harrison Ford told media that it’s “Humbling” to have this done. He also told Conservation International, “These scientists keep naming critters after me, but it’s always the ones that terrify children.”
Adding To The List Of Critters
Ford already has two other critters named and inspired after him. He has ant that was inspired by him. And to add to the list, a spider is named after him as well.
So what is the snake species’ name? It’s Tachymenoides harrisonfordi. The snake was caught in a swamp sunbathing in the Otishi National Park. They describe the snake as a pale, yellowish-brownish and covered with black blotches. The snake has a black belly unlike other snakes that have a light-colored belly. And it has a very scary looking copper-colored eye. All of this allows the snake to camouflage itself in its environment.
Will this be the final critter or species named after the actor who is 81 and still very active in the film industry? With how things are going, probably not. But if there are any new discoveries coming in the near future, it’s obvious that Ford is ok with it. Let’s just hope it’s not something that will creep out children.
